Sherry’s “Kimberbell” pillows and runners...

All of these lovely patterns are by Kimberbell Designs, and she’s made them even available for those who machine embroidery.  Sherry made all of these beautiful pillow fronts and runners, she actually made multiple of each...one for her, her daughter, and mother.  That’s why you’ll see multiples.

Speaking of multiples...there is also one more.  I used Linda from thequiltedpineapple.com Edge rulersto quilt the 1/2” Diagonal lines along the two side vertical borders.  The lines on the rulers make it easy to quilt the lines with no marking.

I love the texture that the grassy freehand design, gives behind the leaf wreath.  The swirly feather design along the herringbone borders, is such a fun freehand design to quilt.  It’s perfect for borders, and adds a modern traditional touch.

Let’s talk about backgrounds!!  When it comes to quilting behind appliquéd words, it isn’t always easy to know what to do.  Stippling can be great...but there’s soooo much more that you could do.  The crackle above or the 1” squares below, help the letters shine, giving the background texture and help them be the focal point.

The combination of textures is just enough to give these pillow fronts more personality.

I used a cream and tan Perma Core 30 tex A&E thread, and 8020 cotton poly blend batting.

A little swirl, feather, and curly cues...are my favorite thing to quilt inside every pumpkin.

Those bugs in those vinyl jars, are every little boys dream.  I quilted a crackle around the jars...which I do freehand, no need for a ruler, unless you do them jumbo sized.  Who would be interested in a tutorial on how to freehand the crackle???  Comment below.

I used a white 30 tex A&E Perma Core thread, and my favorite winline 8020 cotton poly blend batting.

I was trying to figure out what to do in the borders, and it hit me...webs coming from all different directions.  It was such a fun way to quilt a border...try it sometime.  I used the 8” Edge ruler from Linda at thequiltedpineapple.com to quilt the webs.

Gobble gobble!!  I can believe it’s almost thanksgiving again, this year has flown by.

I used a soft cream 30 tex A&E Perma Core thread, I think it was Dyed Natural.  More winline batting was used.  You’ll see that extra piece of batting hanging off.  I cut the batting to the length of the biggest table runner, and then laid out the batting, placing each item on the batting to use it up in the best way.  It worked beautifully.  I just trimmed around the runner or pillow front, so I could quilt everything separate and save on batting.

There is more of the swirly feather and grassy designs, with some added feathers in the turkey feathers, and ribbon candy in the black strip.

Close ups!

This swirly feather design is random, yet similar bey repeating the design out in different shapes, or sizes, or direction.  Who would be interested in me doing a swirly feather video tutorial???  Comment below.

This is the biggest runner...like the last one, she just added borders.  Everything was quilted the same as the previous runner, I just added leafs in the outside border.

Feathers like these are easy.  I start on one side of the turkey feathers, and quilt feathers...traveling up towards the tops of the turkey feather, and then feathering back down towards the body.  Then I move up towards the next feather, along the body of the turkey.  It works great.  No need to stop and cut the thread.

I used a tan/golden and cream thread to quilt this.  30 Tex from A&E.

Here is a close up on my leafs in the outside border.  It’s fun to quilt something new.

Thank you for stopping by!

Laser Cut Quilts - Quilt Market release!

If you’ve been following along on my blog or social media, you may have seen, that I had the opportunity to quilt for Laser Cut Quilts for International Quilt Market.  They have several new kit releases, and these are my most favorite!!!  Lots of pictures...I just want to share all the awesome texture I was able to create on their beautiful quilts.  Laser Cut Quilts specialize in laser cut fabrics, with fusible webbing, ready for you to iron down.  They take care of all of the cutting for you!!  They announced yesterday that they developed their own fusible webbing, called Flexi Fuse.  As a quilter, when I quilt appliqué...it’s not always easy.  The needle has a hard time going through all the fusible webbing, especially when there are multiple layers.  Flexi Fuse was soooo easy to quilt through.  Go to their website for more information: https://lasercutquilts.com/

Meet Sylvester Seahorse!  Isn’t he cute!!!

I outlined all of his spots to make them pronounced, quilted lines on his head, and scallops on his tail...but the real texture I wanted to create, was all in the water.  Let me know if you’re interested, and I can do a tutorial on this design.  It’s super fun to quilt and is very forgiving.

I used a white or cream Perma Core 30 tex A&E thread, and I used 8020 Winline cotton poly blend batting for all of these quilts.

I quilted some simple lines on the fin.  Love it!!

I’m not sure the name of this design...we will go with Happiness!  The next 3 quilts, happiness...maker...and I will cut you, are all designed by Punkin Patch Craft Designs.  Kits will be available through Laser Cut Quilts.

I decided on swirls for the background, because the texture they create is sweet and happy, which goes perfectly with this beautiful bird.  I did a grassy/feathery texture in the bird, with some lines to define the shape.  Mixing hard and soft quilting designs is fine, I just like to keep the overall design cohesive.

I used white Perma Core A&E 30 Tex thread, for this entire quilt.

The lines in the sun and cloud are simple, but they aren’t the main attraction.  I wanted the bird to stand out!

Happy perfectly describes this quilt!

Maker, isn’t she lovely!!

I decided to use two of my Circle2™ machine quilting rulers to quilt the scallop around the edge.  I used the 2” and 3” circles.  For more information on them go to... https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/?category=Rulers or https://www.quiltingit.com/blog/2018/10/10/introducing-my-circle2-longarm-circle-ruler-set

I’ve never quilted hair and a face, like this before.  I was a little intimidated to do the face.  The texture in the hair was easy to quilt out, I just followed the design to know what direction to quilt and I think it turned out great.  For the face, I just wanted to make sure there were cheeks, and definition around the eye, brow, nose, and chin.  I couldn’t be happier with the results.  I used a light pink thread on the face and light tan/brown on the hair.

As makers, I’m sure we would have some quilting on our scarves, right?!?!  I used a Edge ruler from Linda at TheQuiltedPineapple.com to quilt these perfect 1/2” squares.  Her rulers are so awesome, I never have to mark anything, I just follow the lines.

That Maker banner is pretty cute!

One more look!  I used a light grey thread in the background, and coordinated threads in all the other parts.  The scarf, leafs, and rose.

I will cut you...I’ve heard...this is what people say if you were to use their sewing scissors to cut something else.

For this quilt, I decided on Graffiti Quilting in the background.  It’s inspired by the amazing quilting that Karlee Porter does.  It wasn’t easy to be so random at first...then it was fun, and I wanted to keep going.  I’m sharing lots of pictures, so you can see all the different textures in the background.

I love how the scallops and feathers on the scissors, turned out!!   As well as the hard diagonal lines in the scissor blades.  I used the same Edge ruler from Linda, to quilt all those fabulous lines and squares.

I used a dark gray thread in the background, and a white thread everywhere else.

I love the mix of swirly, hard lines, feathers...it’s just so fun to think out of the box, when it comes to quilting.

A last side angle view...

Each of these quilts are going to be available in kits, check back with https://lasercutquilts.com/ after quilt market.

Thank you for stopping by!!  I love what I do, and I appreciate you stopping by to check it out.

Happy Quilting!! - Leisha

Gone Quilting and a couple of flower table runners...

One thing I love, when I’m quilting small items that are the same width, is to quilt them all on one quilt back.  It makes my job easier and faster, and makes it cheaper for you.

These three designs are more of the new design releases available from Laser Cut Quilts.  I’m not sure the name of these patterns, they are new releases for this quilt market.  Check out Laser Cut Quilts on Instagram or go to their website for more information on all the products they carry.  Just a reminder, their specialty is to have all of your fabric pieces cut with fusibles and ready to iron down for all your appliqué projects.

This super cute Gone Quilting pattern, is the perfect gift for the quilt lover in your life.  Including a wind blown quilt, out of the back of the truck.  The old fashioned truck, is also a great touch.

The texture on these quilts, is so fun to create.  I call those pebbles...echoed pebbles...I try and keep my quilting as clean as possible, but going around the circles a few times, creates some great definition.  The  trees and the slight quilting in the car, were fun to add, too.

I used Perma Core 30 tex Antique Cream from A&E thread, also red and charcoal thread from them as well.  The green thread is by Toldi Lock, and I’m not sure where I got it.  I also used 8020 cotton/poly blend batting for each of these.

This super sweet and sunny table runner, is just the thing to brighten up your home.

I used white 30 Tex Perma Core poly wrapped poly thread by A&E, to quilt this quilt.  I also used the 8” Edge ruler from Linda at thequiltedpineapple.com

To quilt this one, I wanted to make sure everything popped, so I quilted around everything and then quilted right up to each appliqué.  Those little 1/2” on point squares are my favorite...and so is the swirly feathers that I quilted freehand.  They sure dress up this quilting.

I love this runner, too!  The colors are vibrant, and how cute is that bird!!

I used several different colors of thread to quilt this one...all the thread changes were worth it.  Unfortunately...I don’t remember which threads went where.  I suggest blending threads as best you can.  But it’s also okay to use one of the other colors as an accent.  If you look at the orange center of the daisy flowers (the one with the yellow background) you can see that I used yellow thread to quilt the cross hatch design.  It looks lovely.  For a closer look, scroll down a few pictures.

Lines are one of my favorites to add, intermixed with all the soft curvy designs.  They just complement one another so well.

So much texture...makes my quilty heart happy!!

Thanks for sticking around...the next 4 quilts I’m going to blog, are my favorite.  Excited to share!!  Until then, happy quilting!

“Around the Pumpkin Patch”

This lovely runner is another one of Laser Cut Quilts beautiful patterns, it’s called Around the Pumpkin Patch and is available on their website.  https://lasercutquilts.com/shop

I used an 8020 cotton poly blend batting and two different threads, a green and cream from Perma Core.

I also used at least three of my Circle2™ machine quilting rulers, to quilt all these fabulous curves.

Here is a look of the full set of my Circle2™ rulers, stacked and ready for you to use in your quilting.  They come in clear or green acrylic.  Go to my shop and check them out...  https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/?category=Rulers

I’m not sure which ruler I used where...this was several quilts ago.  I know I used the 13”/7” ruler for the quilting in the triangle ends to the runner.  I know I also used the 2”/8” and the 3”/9” rulers for some of the smaller orange peel curves...but I can’t quite remember which circles I used on the larger curves.  Which is a great reason to get a set.  You never know which curve or circle is going to fit the best!!

I love the mix of the small and medium sized orange peels.

A double crossed orange peel for these corner blocks is just something a little unique...it’s fun to see what a little curve can create.  I used one of my rulers...I can’t remember if it was the 7”, 8”, or 9”.

I wanted to dress up the edge triangles with a little cross hatched curve, and then I decided to fill the curves with a swirly feather.

Keep coming back for more Laser Cut Quilts designs...there are lots of fun ones, still coming.  https://lasercutquilts.com/shop

happy quilting!!

Barbara’s Lets Talk Turkey table topper!

Barbara made this beautiful Lets Talk Turkey table topper that is available on Quilting Daily’s website, for her daughter!!  We’ve had the most beautiful fall here in northern Utah.  Leaves changing, and lots of sunshine!!   For me, quilting fall themed projects is one of my fav’s!

This is going to be perfect across a long beautiful table!!

I love creating different textures in my quilting...lines, pebbles, curves, grass, and feathers.

I used a tan thread to quilt the entire runner, 30 Tex Perma Core from A&E.  I also used my favorite Winline 8020 cotton/poly blend batting.

Here is a great tutorial on continuous quilting, and I used two of my Circle2™ machine quilting rulers, to quilt the design above, in the squares.

Head on over to my YouTube channel to see more tutorials...   https://www.youtube.com/user/QuiltingIt

These are the two rulers that I used, shown in the video above.  They also come in clear  acrylic.  Go here:  https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/?category=Rulers

I love the double orange peel design in the center of these simple two inches squares, and it’s easy!!  Love using these rulers.

I used the 8” Edge ruler from Linda at thequiltedpineapple.com to quilt the lines and do the corner design...check the video below on how to use rulers.

A quick video on how to do this step down corner, without having to mark anything.  It’s all about using the lines on the ruler.

Shelley’s 2 baby quilts

Shelley is amazing!!  And, I’m sure one of the favorite aunts in her family.  She made these beautiful quilts for nieces and nephews, when they start having kids of their own.

I love her choice of funky fabrics on this one...plus the circles and squares are a great contrast.  I also love it when my clients mix such a diverse variety of fabrics together.

I used a white 30 tex Perma Core A&E thread and my favorite 8020 cotton/poly blend batting.

I quilted the Malachite digital pantograph design, on one of Shelley’s quilts before, and she loved the density of it!  It’s by Patricia Ritter and is available at https://www.urbanelementz.com/malachite.html

Look at that quilting on that Shannon Fabrics minky.  This is why I love solid minky.  The quilting just sings!!

The navy and soft pinks in this quilt, are just so pretty!!

Once again I used white 30 tex Perma Core A&E thread, and 8020 cotton poly blend batting.

Those touches of gold in the Ombré Dots, by V & Co for Moda, make this quilt shine!

Shelley also wanted the Malachite quilting design for this quilt as well.  It’s a perfect wonky swirl.

Look at that texture on that minky!!!  Love what I do!

happy quilting!!

Joleen’s “North Country Advent” quilt!

Joleen made this beautiful Christmas countdown wall hanging. The tree itself is made from wool, as well as the nativity. The background is a Moda Mochi linen. There will be 25 ornaments, also made from wool, to hang on the tree.  (Picture of tree with the ornaments, below)  Joleen added the nativity to the base of the tree.

The pattern is by Debbie Liechty, she is a member of the quilt guild that Joleen goes to.  The name of the pattern is North Country Advent and can be purchased directly from Debbie.  Contact her at debbieliechty@gmail.com to purchase the pattern.

Here is a picture of Debbie’s quilt, with all her beautiful ornaments!!  Each made from wool.  Isn’t that so cute!!!  I love the dimension all ornaments add.  Picture credit: Debbie Liechty.

I love adding texture to every quilt I quilt, and I was excited when Joleen wanted quilting in the tree.  We decided on wood grain.  I think it makes the tree pop!  Swirls and pebbles are also an excellent background for anything winter.  Plus they are fun to quilt.  I decided to do lines in the star, so it can stand out.  I used one of Linda from thequiltedpineapple.com Edge rulers to quilt the lines.

Joleen brought a 8020 batting, and had me use two layers, which is great if you want it to be a little more stiff.  That’s what she was hoping for.  It also enhanced the quilting.  I used the Oxford Perma Core 30 tex thread from A&E for the background and Antique Cream for the everything on the tree, also 30 tex by A&E.

I can believe Christmas is around the corner!  Hope that you have a fun holiday project or two in the works.  I have one I want to start soon.

Happy quilting!

Sherry’s Halloween Boo bench pillows

These super cute bench pillows, made by Sherry, are 2 of the 3 she made.

The pattern for this bench pillow is by Kimberbell Designs and is called Halloween Boo.  Go to this link to find more details.  https://www.kimberbelldesigns.com/product/halloween-boo-bench-pillow/  If you have an embroidery machine, you need to check out Kimberbell’s patterns, they have so many fun things to make!!

Yes, you’re seeing double!!  When I have multiple things to quilt, that are small and the same size, I like to have one quilt back. The first of the 3, I quilted for Sherry, is quilted at the top of the quilt backing, with a scrap piece of batting...so it wasn’t easy to get a picture.  I quilted all three the extact same.  Quilting the crackle in the background is easy and I love how it makes all the appliqué stand out.  I quilted ribbon candy in the top border.  Lines in the big pumpkin and moon, using Edge rulers from Linda at thequiltedpineapple.com (her rulers have been my favorite for years!!!).  Swirls and curly cues in the smaller pumpkin, give it just a little texture and personality!

I used my favorite 8020 Winline cotton poly blend batting, and white 30 tex Perma Core A&E thread.

I quilted spiderwebs 🕸 in the blocks along the bottom, also used Linda’s Edge rulers to do those lines.

Whether you are a Halloween lover or not, that jack-o’-lantern is pretty cute!

happy quilting!!

Sherry’s Broomhilda's Bakery quilt!

Sherry made this amazing Broomhilda Bakery quilt, pattern by Kimberbell Designs.  The amazing thing about Kimberbell’s patterns, most of them are for those who machine embroider and she has great digital files for each block.  There is even some clear vinyl on some of them...look closely...like that jar of eye balls.

I wanted to add lots of textures throughout, repeating them here and there, to tie the quilting together.

I used 3 colors of thread.  White, black, and purple.  I know the white and black are 30 tex A&E Perma Core thread, I don’t remember if the purple is as well...or if it’s Signature thread.  I used an 8020 cotton poly blend batting.

Some close ups on all the quilty texture, on all the different blocks.

I used 2 of my Circle2™ rulers, to quilt this block.  The 2”/8” (both sizes) and if I remember right, the 4”.  To check out my rulers here is a blog post: https://www.quiltingit.com/blog/2018/10/10/introducing-my-circle2-longarm-circle-ruler-set or the link to them in my shop https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/circle2-longarm-ruler-set-green-acrylic

Even those some of the designs I quilted aren’t necessarily Halloweeny, they go really well with the overall design of the quilt!!  The quilty texture is a perfect combo with all the fun blocks on this quilt.

Kimberbell Designs is known for 3D elements added to their quilts or patterns.

It’s hard to see, unless you look closely...I quilted a pinstripe in the black border.  I used the 8” edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple.  I used a couple of her other edge rulers, when I quilted different blocks inside the quilt as well.  You can never know which size you’ll use the most, so I encourage you to get her set.

Thank you for coming by!!  I have more quilty Halloween stuff coming your way soon.

Happy quilting!!

Introducing my “Circle2™” longarm circle ruler set!!

The past several years, when I would share which rulers I was using to custom machine quilt...I was often asked which circle ruler set I would recommend.  I didn’t have a recommendation.  I was using a solid circle ruler, that only had two lines, one vertical and one horizontal...which crossed each other in the center.  While these rulers worked, they weren’t the easiest to maneuver and didn’t have all the lines to help keep my quilting more accurate.  Another thing about these rulers, they were cut to the exact size of circle.  A 4” circle cut at 4”, so when I quilted out a circle it actually ended up being 4.5”, because the manufacturer didn’t take into consideration the 1/2” that the hopping foot added.  That is why I prefer machine quilting rulers, designed by machine quilters.  We understand the importance of which lines are best where.

- Design Patent D875,574 -

So...I set out to design a circle ruler set of my own.    Which brings me to “Circle2™“.  When I designed this set, I wanted to make sure there were 2 sizes of circles in each ruler, so we (you and I) would only need 6 rulers instead of 12.  These rulers were designed to give you and I the ability to quilt out full sized circles...so, the 4” circle will quilt a 4” circle.  (To get the correct measurement on each of the rulers, you must quilt out a full circle. )  You may be wondering how you quilt a full circle, with only 3/4th of a circle ruler.  I recommend quilting a majority of the circle, and then putting the needle down, rotating the ruler and lining up the spacing making sure there is a 1/4” on both sides, and then finishing the circle.  I personally am going to use these rulers more often, to quilt a variety of different sized orange peels and scalloped borders, which I’ve been doing with my prototypes...as I’ve been waiting for my patent to be filed.  Now that it’s filed, I can share them with you!!!

Circle rulers, just like any curve set, are my go to rulers.  Which size do I use the most?...all of them equally.  Sometimes sashing is super long between blocks, and I love to add my cross crossed scallop design, so I audition my rulers to see which is the best fit.  I suggest getting a set, you never know which circle curve will fit best where.  Before I share with you different designs we could quilt using these rulers, I would like to share with you the 6 different sized rulers.

I carry these rulers in two different colors clear and green clear (pictured in this post), and are made with high quality acrylic.  Clear are available here: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/circle2-longarm-ruler-set-clear-acrylic   Green sets are available here: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/circle2-longarm-ruler-set-green-acrylic  The difference between the green and clear acrylic, it’s easier to see the lines on the green rulers...when quilting on light fabrics.  If you’re used to using clear rulers, and don’t have a hard time seeing, clear would be great for you!

Here is the biggest ruler, 7”/13”.

Next up the 6”/12”.

The 5”/11”.

The 4”/10”

The 3”/9”.

The smallest of the set comes in at 2”/8”.

If you notice along the straight edge of the rulers, the increments are 1/2”.  These measurements, once again, take into consideration the 1/4” hopping foot.  Which is helpful if you’re quilting cross hatching arcs, which I will show a picture of below.

- Design Patent D875,574 - ©️2018 Quilting It - by Leisha Farnsworth.  These images may not be used in any way.

So...let’s talk about how to use these rulers.

These two quilts are a great example of what a variety of different sized orange peels can add to any custom quilting.  If you’re not familiar with what an orange peel is in quilting...it’s all those petals.

I quilted this tumbler quilt with a circle ruler...quilted from the bottom to the top.

There is so much you can do with a circle.

These are a couple of different examples of the scallops I do in sashing, and then along the borders.  I love it when they cross cross.  Be sure when quilting this border design, you don’t quilt too close to both the seam and the raw edge of the quilt, while still getting that nice space between the curves.  Pictured below is a quilt made up of all orange peels, it was extremely helpful to have a circle ruler to quilt just inside those curves.

Next up...my favorite way to use a circle curve.

Here are two great examples of the cross hatched arc.  While the one above (in the aqua and green fabrics) curves inward, meeting in the center...the one below curves outward, framing the block perfectly.  The one below is also my favorite way to quilt those big triangle blocks that finish the edge off, when a quilt is pieces on point.

I hope you can see the endless possibilities, with these rulers!!  I will post when the clear sets are available.  I recommend subscribing to my YouTube channel, if you haven’t already.  www.youtube.com/user/QuiltingIt

International shipping is available, if it won’t work in checkout, let me know.  Thank you!

Thanks for stopping by!!  Have a great week!

-leisha

NOTE: A protective paper will be attached to the top side of the ruler, when it ships to you, to prevent scratches. To remove the paper, use your fingernail. A knife or scissors may scratch your ruler.  Go to my YouTube channel for a short video on this: https://youtu.be/eOSu_ZQ5E4g

To prevent chips in your rulers, you need to hold the ruler butted up next to the hopping foot. You must use a ruler base to give you more stability. Keep the ruler flat, tilting the ruler can cause it to catch under the hopping foot or catch in between the needle bar and top of the hopping foot.

Baby + Quilt

My sister Amanda, made this fun quilt for her sister in-law who is about to have a baby boy!  I love it!

Those dark grey plus’ are just so striking!!

My sister got her fabrics from https://www.sistersandquilters.com/

She used moda’s black cross weave, and Zen Chic’s dotted line fabric from their new White Christmas line.  It has a gold dot every once in awhile.

She decided on my Squared©️ digital machine quilting pantograph design, for the quilting.  It quilted out beautifully and is available at https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/squared

Seriously loving the texture this quilting design gave this quilt.  The on point square is a great contrast to the large +’s.

I used Antique Cream 30 tex Perma Core A&E thread and 8020 cotton poly blend batting.

Amanda also picked Shannon Fabrics super soft embossed Cuddle (minky) dot for the backing.

Love what I do, especially when I get to do it for family!!

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy quilting!

Let’s Bake

Terri made this amazing Let’s Bake quilt, pattern and fabrics by Lori Holt.  Seriously, the details in every block are so beautifully done.

I used a circle ruler set I designed for the curves along the outside border...they are on their way to me, and I’ll share soon!  So excited!  I also used the Quilted Pineapple Edge rulers by Linda, for all the straight lines in this quilt, they are my go to straight rulers!

It’s fun to freemotion quilt, and add all that fun texture!

One of my favorite parts of this quilt is all of the cross stitching...look at that recipe, and those sweet flowers!!

Another picture with that curved border, that I love to quilt...using my Circle2 rulers.

Terri brought some of the Hobbs Wool batting, which adds the most beautiful loft to any quilt.  I used Antique Cream Perma Core A&E 30 tex thread.

Now...I think I need to go bake some cookies!!

Happy quilting!!

Jen’s 100 Good Wishes quilt!!

What is a 100 Good Wishes quilt?  After searching, this is what I came across.   “A custom that originated in China, the “100 Wishes Quilt” or Bai Jia Bei, was originally created by having friends each contribute a quilt square as a show of love for the new child.”

Jen and her husband adopted their daughter from China in 2012, and she has a special birthday coming up...8!  She wanted to have this quilt quilted and ready to give to her in November when she gets baptized.

Each of these fabric squares were sent to Jen to add to this quilt from family and friends.

It reminds me of a postage stamp quilt I made years ago.  One of them even came with a cute button sewn in the middle.  I did remove it to quilt the quilt, and sewed it back on afterwards.

Some of the squares even have sweet hand drawn pictures.

I decided to quilt Soho on it by Sarah Ann Myers and it’s available at  https://www.urbanelementz.com/soho.html

I also used a white 30 Tex A&E Perma Core thread, and 8020 cotton/poly blend batting.

Look at that minky and quilting!!!  This is why I love quilting minky that is solid.  The quilting texture is always amazing when the minky is solid.

I hope Jen’s daughter feels extra loved by her 100 Good Wishes!

Kristen’s Ellie the Elephant quilt!

Kristen made this super sweet Ellie the Elephant quilt, pattern by Ten Sisters, for her first grand baby.  The entire center is made of 1” squares, using a method that Ten Sisters teach.  Their method insures that you’re going to get seams matching up and square.

I used a Perma Core cream thread, Antique Cream from A&E 30 Tex.  I also used 8020 cotton/poly blend batting.

A close up on cute Ellie the Elephant!!!

I freehand quilted the swirls, and used my favorite Edge rulers from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt all the straight lines.  I did a crosshatch in Ellie’s ear, which I love next to those swirls.  I like the texture from mixing hard and soft lines.  Then I quilted 1” squares offset from the pieced squares.  Which helps make Ellie stand out more.

I love the low volume background!

Let’s talk about borders...the ribbon candy design in the purple inner border goes well with the other curves I quilted, and it’s my favorite way to add a little something extra to your borders or sashing.  For the outside scrappy pink border, I used one of my new rulers...that I designed, which I’m hoping to release soon...to quilt the orange peel petals that alternate around the quilt.  I love where the corners meet up, making 3/4ths of a orange peel circle.  I think it frames the quilt nicely.  I wanted to keep this more of a light custom quilt, because there is minky on the back, and too much quilting on a quilt with minky batting...just makes the quilt top stiff.

The sweet baby who gets to be cuddled up in this quilt is lucky!!

happy quilting!!  - leisha

Barbara’s picture quilt!

Barbara made this quilt and another one...here ready to be quilted...for her granddaughters. This one is awesome!!  I mean, look at that awesome minky backing...(you may need to go to my blog, if you get these posts through emails, to see the post header picture that has the minky backing.)

Her granddaughter plays soccer for the local high school, and so I wanted the quilting to go along with the theme of the quilt...without being too cheesy.  I thought Mod Dotz by Patricia Ritter at Urban Elementz would be a great fit.  I did it at a larger scale, because of the minky backing texture.  I don’t love tight quilting on minky quilts, either...it takes away from the softness of the minky.  Go here to get the Mod Dotz design:    https://www.urbanelementz.com/mod-dotz.html

I used a white 30 Tex Perma Core A&E thread and Winline 8020 cotton/poly blend batting.

I quilted this using my Statler (computer/software for the Gammill longarm machines) and so I trimmed around the pictures so that the quilting wouldn’t quilt the pictures...then I used my favorite Edge rulers from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt in the ditch around the pictures.

Look at that minky texture + the quilting!!!  Love it!

thanks for stopping by!  - Leisha

For those of you interested, this is what Barbara used to print the pictures onto the fabric.  She buys them at JoAnn’s.

Sherry’s Butterfly Garden quilt~!

I love love this quilt!!  The navy solid background fabric makes all those vibrant colors pop.  This pattern is called Butterfly Garden by Lori Holt and is in her Quilty Fun book.

Such a fun happy quilt!!

I love the variety of fabrics, it’s quilts like these that are perfect scrap bin quilts.

Some close ups of the butterflies and the quilting.  I chose to quilt my new “Foil©️” design on this quilt, and I love how it turned out.  It’s available in several different digital formats on my website: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop/foil  When I saw this quilt for the first time, I knew this is what I wanted to quilt on it.  I think it fits well with the modern butterflies and flowers.

My Foil©️ design, pictured below.

I used a white 30 Tex A&E Perma Core thread and my favorite Winline 8020 cotton/poly blend batting.  When it comes to using different colored threads on contrasting fabrics...especially when doing edge to edge quilting...I prefer lighter/neutral thread on darker fabrics, than darker thread on lighter fabrics.  I think the lighter thread blends in pretty well, and doesn’t stand out or take away from the quilt pattern and fabrics used.  Custom quilting is completely different.  Matching thread colors to quilts is key.

Here is Foil©️ with the flowers.  Love these sweet flowers!!

Thank you for coming by!!!  Happy sewing!

Machine Quilting Classes!!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to longarm machine quilt???  If you’re local to Logan, Utah...now is your chance!  I’m teach not one but two classes.  One for beginners and one for advanced quilters.  Could you take both classes?  Absolutely!  The awesome thing about these classes, they are hands on.  You will be using a Baby Lock longarm machine.

In the beginners class, I’m going to teach several fun all over freehand designs, like this wood grain.  In the quilting world, it’s called free motion...meaning that you’re moving the machine, not a computer.  Also, some great tips on how to start a business or deal with those pesky borders that like to wave on us sometimes.  I want you to leave feeling confident and ready to quilt more than just a basic stipple.

For my advanced class, we are going to focus on custom quilting, and yes...there will be rulers!!  No need to be scared.  Rulers can add great texture and dimension to any shape or block on your quilt!  AND...I’m excited to share, I’ll be debuting a set of my own longarm rulers in this class.  They are just about to be released, and I’m excited to add them to my longarm ruler collection.  Custom quilting adds sooo much more personality to a quilt.  Do I think every quilt should be custom quilted, no.  We’ll talk about that, too.  My hope is that you leave class with some technics that will lead you to creating your own personal quilting style.  No two quilters, quilt the same.  We can also talk about some issues you may be having with quilts that you’ve been quilting.  Talking with other quilters has always been a wealth of knowledge for me.

A recent quilt I quilted...

The quilt pictured above was made by Beth, and I quilted it back in April.  I’m amazed at all I’ve learned...and with the years of practice I have under my belt...quilting a quilt like this one is possible.  It’s one of my most favorite quilts I’ve ever quilted, and I’m excited to see what I’ll get to quilt next.

Below is a link to the classes...please let me know if you have any questions.

Quilting Designs

I haven’t blogged about my three newest pantograph quilting designs with Patricia Ritter yet...so starting with my favorite...

Diagonal Plaid - Hexies©️!!  I’ve been dreaming of this design for awhile and I’m so excited it’s available to start using on quilts.  It’s available in paper and digital formats.  Go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/diagonal-plaid-hexies.html

Canary©️ is such a happy feather swirly design, and is different from our other feather designs.  This design comes in paper and digital formats, and it also comes as a tear away design.  Which is great for those who use their domestic machines to quilt.  It’s available at: https://www.urbanelementz.com/canary.html

Last, but certainly not least is Taj Mahal©️.  This is a fun take on our Bubble Wrap Double Take©️ design.  It’s available in the following options (as pictured below) ...a edge to edge design, which can be used with a border corner, and a block.  Of course there is a set available with the corner/edge to edge together.  To find all of the options to this design, go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=Taj+mahal

Kathy’s Swell Christmas quilt!

There are Christmas quilts, and then there is this Swell Christmas quilt, made by Kathy and pattern/fabrics by Urban Chiks.  It’s a box kit from Moda.  The Santa makes the quilt, actually he is most of the quilt.  And, so adorable at that!!

Seriously, that Santa!!

Kathy and I looked through a bunch of swirly/circle designs, and she decided on this one...Gingersnap by Apricot Moon Designs.  I saw it on a winter quilt a quilty friend of mine quilted recently...so I was excited to see how it quilted out, especially on Santa’s beard.

These throw back traditional fabrics and colors by Urban Chiks are such a hit.  I used Antique Cream A&E Perma Core 30 Tex thread and my favorite 8020 Winline batting.

Beard pic...see what I mean.  That quilty texture is just so fun!

The backing fabric is equally fun!!  Christmas quilting has started...excited to see what is next.

Thank you for coming by!  Happy sewing.
