Kathy’s Flower Quilt

Excited to share this lovely quilt with you today!! Kathy made it years ago and decided it was time to get it quilted. It turned out so beautiful.

Kathy had these beautiful woven charm packs that she sewed together, and then she got the flowers out of an old American Patchwork & Quilting magazine and appliquéd them on.

Kathy requested custom quilting, which was so fun to do for her.

When I first saw the quilt I thought about quilting an orange peel petal on the squares. I started with an X and then used my 4” Circle2 ruler, as you can see below, and then I quilted an orange peel. I love how it created an almost lattice effect in the background.

My Circle2 rulers come in a set of 6 and are available on my website at https://www.quiltingit.com/shop …they are so versatile. The rulers are made from high quality 1/4” acrylic and range in size from 2”-13”. They are available in clear and green clear. (As seen above)

I also used an Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt all the lines. Go to: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/

I quilted a 1/4” pinstriped grid in the flower center with the Edge ruler and freehand quilted my swirly feather in the petals. I teach how to quilt my Swirly Feather design in my Quilting It Freemotion course. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course/p/gn8izw5h2m5otf2xkq7zs7fax4vb6p-d3ejz

In the sashing I quilted ribbon candy, and the swirly feather again in the outside border. For the scrappy rectangular border, I quilted an X in each rectangle then I quilted a 1/2” line on both sides of each line of the X, which created this beautiful diamond plaid. I LOVE it so much!!

In the leaves and stem I quilted a 1/2” angled line with the Edge ruler.

I used Cream Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt this whole quilt, it blends beautifully. Don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout to get 15% off your next order. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3004-cream-neutral/p/134-02-3004?show=Cones

I also used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, it’s my favorite! Go to: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm

Thanks for stopping by!! If you’re interested in having me quilt for you, check out my edge to edge quilting calendar and schedule a day or two. Go to: https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge

Happy quilting! Leisha 💕
