Laurie’s Block Exchange Quilt

Excited to share with you this stunning quilt that I custom quilted for Laurie mid December. It’s so beautiful!!!

Laurie won these two different blocks from her guild and decided to put them together into one quilt. She has a quilty friend who helped her figure out how to make it happen.

Members of her guild decide whether or not they want to submit a block or two, and then everyone who made a block has a chance to win all of the blocks. Laurie was the lucky winner twice!! This is something that I think they do fairly often, and she’s had both of these sets of blocks for a while, and I think it’s amazing how well the blocks work together.

A drew out the blocks on graph paper to figure out how I wanted to custom quilt each of these blocks. I love doing ruler work when I custom quilt, and creating beautiful shapes that often times create secondary designs. As you can see in these blocks.

For the blocks I used my 2”, 3”, 5”, and 9” Circle2 rulers, which are available in my shop. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop β€’ I created the Circle2 rulers with the hopping foot in mind so when you quilt out a 3” circle you are going to get a 3” circle not a 3 1/2” circle, which I’ve noticed happens with other longarm circle rulers. They are made from a 1/4” high-quality acrylic in America.

I also used a –20– ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple for the arcs in the inner border and her edge ruler for the lines throughout the quilt. Go to: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/

I just love this quilty texture!!! It’s sooo good!

I don’t think custom quilting always needs to be dense. Some of my favorite designs I’ve created over the years are like what I’ve done on this quilt. Beautiful soft curves and straight lines that creates a beautiful classic look.

You can see some of the secondary designs in both the picture above and below.

In the block pictured below, I used my 5” Circle2 ruler in the rectangles and my 2” Circle2 ruler for the arcs around the blocks and the center of the 9 patch as well as the orange peel petals in the 9 patch.

I used a 3” Circle2 ruler for the curves around the outside of the block and the 2” Circle2 ruler once again for the petals in the half square triangle blocks.

My Circle2 rulers are available as a set of 6 in my shop. The circles range in size from 2”-13”. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop

I used Cream Omni thread from Superior Threads. Don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for your next order and you’ll get 15% off. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3004-cream-neutral/p/134-02-3004?show=Cones also, as you can see the cream color of thread blends beautifully!!

As you can see I did my swirly feather freehand design to frame the quilt nicely. I teach my Swirly Feather and 9 other freehand designs in my Quilting It Freemotion video course, which is available on my website. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course β€’ I teach one freemotion quilting design per video, so you can pick and choose which design you would like to learn.

I used my 9” Circle2 ruler to quilt the curves for shorter sashing between the blocks. It’s my favorite design to quilt in sashing.

I love how all of these blocks look together!

Laurie is planning on hanging this on her wall, which is perfect because it’s a smaller throw size.

I used my favorite 8020 batting from Winline Textiles, which is available here: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm

My biggest goal with custom quilting is to create an overall cohesive look with the variety of different designs that I do, and I really love how everything came together on this quilt.

If you’re interested in having me custom quilt for you send me an email with the picture of your quilt and we will talk about the quilting or check out my edge to edge quilting calendar to schedule a day or two. Go to: https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge

Bonnie’s Sampler Quilt

Custom quilting sampler quilts is so fun for me! Being able to create different quilty textures in each of the blocks and repeating the design elements in different ways throughout is my goal, like I did on Bonnie’s sample quilt.

I love the overall quilty texture and look of the quilt. The design in the sashing frames the blocks so nicely and I love the add a touch of the swirly feather border.

I used four of my favorite Circle2 rulers, the 2”, 3”, 4”, and 5” throughout the quilt in different places.

My Circle2 machine quilting circle rulers are available in my shop at https://www.quiltingit.com/shop β€’ they are made from a 1/4” high-quality acrylic in the USA. The circles range in size from 2” up to 13”, with two sizes of circles per ruler like the 2”/8” pictured below. They come in clear and green clear.

I used Cream Omni thread from Superior Threads. Don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off your order. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3004-cream-neutral/p/134-02-3004?show=Cones

Check out the background fabric color in both of these pictures. They were taken at the same time in the same room with the same light and with the same phone. I’m still sharing them both because I want to have a place to come to if I have a block that I need to custom quilt and I need a variety of different ideas.

You’ll see in all these blocks a variety of different line designs, lots of orange peel petals, and even some swirls and feathers.

I used an Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt all the lines. https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/ Linda’s Edge rulers are my favorite straight rollers to quilt with!

Bonnie provided her own batting, it feels similar to the 8020 that I use often for client quilts.

I love the swirl arc design that I quilted in the blue fabrics in the block below. It might be one of my most favorite freehand designs that I quilted on this whole quilt. I definitely have to stop and think for a moment which direction I’m going as I work my way around the block so that I don’t quilt the swirl on the wrong side of the block.

When there are odd shapes in the background pieces on the block, sometimes it can be tricky to figure out what to do. I quilted a simple orange peel petal, then filled it with a couple of feathers, and the filled up the rest of the space with my Swirly Feathers, which I teach in my Quilting It Freemotion course. For more info and a look into my video course, click here: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course

Love that teeny tiny orange peel!! My 2” Circle2 ruler for the win. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop

I also love the swirly pointed design that I freehand quilted in the corners on the background fabric in the block below. I’ve never done that specific design before, so I’m going to need to do that again!

Check out that quilty texture one more time!

I posted a few videos when I quilted this quilt back at the beginning of December when I quilted this on my instagram. Here is the first: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DR8HP58D50J/?igsh=bWhnYnl5aXk1MDFs and my YouTube channel https://youtube.com/@quiltingit

I love what I did in these corner blocks, and it’s simply lines with a 1/2” spacing. Click here to watch a video I shared about quilting corner blocks correctly so the points don’t get cut off. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSIgDuUEaVe/?igsh=MXd1bWdhcXJwbTd2cg==

Check out that Minky texture!

I don’t love doing dense custom quilting on quilts that have minky on the back, because it won’t be as soft as it should be. This is just the right amount of quilting!

You’ll see in both the block above and below those beautiful swirly arc and swirly point designs that I freehanded and mentioned previously when I showed the front of each of the blocks. I love them both so much!

If you’re interested in having me quilts for you, check out my edge to edge quilting calendar at https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge or email me at quiltingit@gmail.com with a picture of your quilt for custom quilting. Thanks for stopping by.

Angie’s Christmas Alphabet Quilt

The holidays have come and gone and I forgot I wanted to share this incredible quilt with you.

Angie got together with a group of quilty friends and made this darling alphabet Christmas quilt.

They each chose some letters and did a block for each person in the group. There’s some pretty incredible details on each of the blocks. She recently did a Halloween one, and I am so excited to quilt it.

There is no pattern for this quilt. They each came up with their own ideas for their blocks.

Check out the fun details!!

There are beads, buttons, bows, and you can see how dimensional Santa is, so I just had to quilt around them as best I could.

I quilted my freehand Overlapping Circles design in the background, which is great around appliquΓ©. It’s probably my favorite because I can make it look good between all of the tiny pieces. I teach my Overlapping Circles design in my Quilting It Freemotion course. I would love to teach you how to quilt it. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course/p/gn8izw5h2m5otf2xkq7zs7fax4vb6p-trp7l or for an inside look into my course, click here: https://youtu.be/5i_iKdnyq2Y?si=beYC18Q7YrGuhMhz

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads. Don’t forget that you can use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off your order. Here is the thread I used: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones

Here are some close-ups on some of the darling blocks.

When I quilted around the Santa Claus, I actually was able to fold in the arms, legs, and part of the coat. It was easy to work around.

These pearls were a fun touch on this mistletoe block.

In some of the appliquΓ© pieces I did add a little bit of quilting if I felt like it was necessary or would enhance the quilt. Also, if the layers were flat like the nativity pieces above.

How cute is this quilted stocking?! The mouse even had a pillow and a cute little santa hat.

You can see that they added beads in the snow globe above. In a quilt like this it’s all about the details.

How darling is that village?! Some of the blocks had wool, too.

I loved this beautiful wreath block!

You’ll see that I quilted some wood green into this yule log.

I used an Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt the crosshatching in this checkered block. Go to: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/

I also used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles. https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm

Thanks for stopping by! If you’re interested in having me quilt for you, check out my edge to edge quilting calendar and schedule a day or two. Nancy’s Glad Tidings Quilt

Excited to share this darling Christmas wall hanging with you…from the sweet Christmas accents to the darling words across the center, this beautiful piece is going to be the perfect centerpiece in Nancy’s home.

This darling mini quilt was made by Nancy, whose excellent fabric choices add a little extra whimsy and charm.

The mini size makes it ideal for decorating a small space, tabletop, or wall while still delivering big visual impact. If you’re looking for a holiday quilt pattern that celebrates peace, joy, and love, this one is it.

For the quilting design, Nancy chose the Christmas Garland pantograph by Molly from Lovely Threads. The garland-inspired swirls and berries complement the holiday theme and give the quilt a professionally finished appearance.

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, which beautifully blends with the fabrics while allowing the design to shine. Sharon’s Edgar the Raven Quilt

I’ve quilted a few Legit Kit quilts before, and they’re always so incredible!!! Sharon did an excellent job on Edgar the Raven.

Sharon and I discussed a variety of different textures and freehand quilting designs, and this is how it turned out. I love the textures together!!

The fabric colors are so vibrant I did not even have to edit these pictures. The colors are bold in all the right ways.

I freehand quilted a combination of swirls, waves, pebbles, and arcs. All to create movement and texture. I teach a lot of these elements individually in my Quilting It Freemotion course. Check it out here: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course

I quilted straight lines in the legs and talons, with a wood grain in the branch he’s perched on. Woodgrain is also a design that I teach in my freemotion course.

I used three different colors of Omni thread, I quilted the entire background with Orange Peel #3154, which is definitely more visible on the yellow fabrics, but I thought it still blended beautifully. Here is the link: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3154-orange-peel/p/134-02-3154?show=Cones

I used Navy Blue #3109 for the entire body of the bird, except the eye, which I used the same Orange Peel color. Navy Blue can be found here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3109-navy-blue/p/134-02-3109?show=Cones

I used Steel Blue #3110 for the branch. Which blended beautifully. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3110-steel-blue/p/134-02-3110?show=Cones

And don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off your order.

I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, which is the most commonly used batting by my clients. You can find it here: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm

If you have a business, you can create a wholesale account.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I have a super sweet quilt to share with you today!!

Isobel made this Halloween Blooms quilt for a great granddaughter. Yes, it’s a Halloween pattern, however she thought it looked like a flower. I agree, so sweet!! The pattern is by Joanna from Fig Tree and Co, and can be found here: https://store.figtreeandcompany.com/product_p/ftq-100he.htm

Lisa’s Summer Nine Patch Quilt

As a longarm quilter, there are so many quilts that I quilt and then want to make, and this one is at the top of my list! I love it even more so because of all the navy, which is one of my favorite colors.

Lisa made this quilt with scraps from her stash. She said she used the Summer Nine Patch Quilt pattern by Laundry Basket Quilts and sized it up. Go to: https://www.laundrybasketquilts.com/products/summer-nine-patch-pdf-download

As you can see from the picture below, while the quilt was on my longarm, there is Minky on the back. So we talked about several different panto designs, because I didn’t want the minky to lose its coziness with too dense of a panto.

We were still undecided, when I saw a brand new panto that my friend Molly released. It’s called Pinstripe Clam, and it’s available in her shop: https://lovely-threads-quilts.myshopify.com/collections/clams-fans-and-orange-peels/products/pinstripe-clam and it quilts out beautifully!

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones and don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout to get 15% off of your order.

Lisa loves the bamboo batting that I offer, and I can see why it is so luxurious! She wants it in every quilt. It’s from Winline Textiles, and if you have a business be sure to open a wholesale account. Go to: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/winline-100bamboo-s/145.htm

I need to finish the other two quilts that I’m working on, so that I can start this one!

I just love this quilty texture! And look at it on that backing…

I would love to quilt for you, check out my edge to edge quilting calendar and schedule a day or two. Go to: https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge and if you would like me to custom quilt for you, send me an email at quiltingit@gmail.com with a picture of your quilt and we can discuss the quilting. Shirleneβ€˜s Summer Season Quilt

Do you have a stash of half square triangles? This might be the quilt for you!

While you don’t necessarily need a pattern for this quilt, because some people have made this quilt without one, if you would like one I found a similar one on Missouri Stars website. Click here: https://www.missouriquiltco.com/products/summer-season-quilt-pattern-by-missouri-star

Shirlene used a variety of different low volume prints for the background, and I love it!!! It adds to the scrappy feel.

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads. Click here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones and don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout to get 15% off your order.

Because of some of the circles that are in the fabrics, Shirlene requested a panto design with circles. I sent her a picture of Tahitian Pearl which is one of Patricia Ritter and my pantos, and she said yes!! Tahitian Pearl is available at Urban Elementz, go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/tahitian-pearl.html

I used my favorite 8020 cotton poly blend batting, which I get from Winline Textiles. Go to: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm and if you have a business, you can set up a wholesale account.

The soft swirls and circles in the panto add the most beautiful quilty texture and soften up all of the hard lines in the quilt.

If you would like to have me quilt for you, check out my edge to edge quilting calendar and schedule a day or two. Go to: https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge

Kris’s Ocean Currents Quilt

I have a fun quilt to share with you today!!!

Kris is a new client of mine, and she’s sent me some amazing quilts to quilt, like this one. The pattern is called Ocean Currents by Pinetree Country Quilts, which can be found here: https://pinetreecountryquilts.com/shop/patterns/current/ocean-currents-quilt-pattern/

Kris requested blue thread, so I chose Baby Blue that blends beautifully with the triangular border blocks and all the white background, as well as all the more vibrant fabrics. I used Omni thread of course, which can be found here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3100-baby-blue/p/134-02-3100?show=Cones and don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off your order.

Kris suggested a couple of different pantos, and I was happy to see that one of them was Seafoam by Patricia Ritter. The soft swirls, curves and bubbles were perfect for the hard lines in the quilt pattern. Seafoam is available at Urban Elementz. Go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/seafoam.html

Kris has requested 6 oz bamboo batting in all her quilts, which I love!! It’s definitely my personal favorite. I get it from Winline Textiles. Click here: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/winline-100bamboo6oz-s/150.htm and if you have a business, you can set up a wholesale account.

Look how amazing that quilty texture is! Can you see why this was the one I chose out of her suggestions?!!!

Miriam’s Twilight Gardens Quilt

So excited to share with you Miriam’s Twilight Gardens quilt, which is by Pamela Curo, and was featured in Quiltmania Magazine. The pattern isn’t available in her Etsy shop, it must be exclusive to the magazine.

Miriam asked for custom quilting and said there wasn’t anything she didn’t like. Which gives me creative freedom to quilt a variety of different designs throughout the quilt.

Using an Omni color swatch card from Superior Threads, I was able to pick the perfect color to blend on all of the lighter fabrics. That color is called Goose. Click here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3019-goose-gray/p/134-02-3019?show=Cones

I also used black Omni thread for all the darker fabrics, even the greys and navy. I used the black thread on the pinstripe border design that I did. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3026-black/p/134-02-3026?show=Cones

Don’t forget to use my non-affiliate 15% off code ASTLEISHA at checkout.

With the background shapes in the blocks, I was able to create some beautiful textures like the 1/2” lines going around the shape of the background in the block above and the diamonds in the background below. While both of these blocks have a lot of lines, they also have some curves as well which I created using my Circle2 rulers. More about them in a moment.

My Circle2 rulers can be found in my shop. https://www.quiltingit.com/shop

When I started quilting this filler strip I was thinking of just quilting elongated x’s, but then had the idea after I created a zig zag to echo the zig zag with a 1/2” line on both sides. I’m more excited about the end result than I usually am with filler blocks or strips. I love this texture.

I knew I wanted to do I pinstripe border, and decided to go small because the borders weren’t exactly even and I thought I could fudge it if needed. It ended up working so good. I was quilting up to the first corner when I decided to add 4 pointed stars in each of the corners to add more stars to the quilt because of the star block. I love to pull inspiration from the blocks in the quilt or from the fabric, for the quilting. The inner border stumped me for a little bit because I was trying to figure out something to contrast the pinstripes. I almost did ribbon candy, but had already quilted that design in a few filler blocks that touched or was near the border. I love the diamond shape. I did mark a dot every two inches with a chalk pencil to make it easier.

I decided to do my pebble and pebble swirls in the stars m, which adds softness to the block and helps the stars pop. I teach this freemotion pebble design in the Pebble Video in my Quilting It Freemotion course. You can check it out here: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course And the pebble video can be individually purchased here: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course/p/gn8izw5h2m5otf2xkq7zs7fax4vb6p-jbfy3

I love love love how these stars turned out!! Initially I wasn’t going to quilt much in them, starting with just a simple x, but then I quilted a couple of pinstripes…and I couldn’t love them more!! They remind me of the folded paper stars we used to make with notes in school.

I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, which is my favorite!!

One of my very favorite fillers to freehand quilt is my Overlapping Circles. It’s beautiful with a variety of different patterns or appliquΓ©. It’s the perfect design to get around the little spots between leaves or flowers. I can show you the fundamental of this design and others in my Quilting It Freemotion course. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course

The Overlapping Circles video is here: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course/p/gn8izw5h2m5otf2xkq7zs7fax4vb6p-trp7l

Another fun design for me, were these scrappy log cabin blocks (not sure what their official name is). I initially just planned on quilting angle lines from the outside into the center, but then quickly realized the center part is more square so it was another opportunity to add more 4 pointed stars. I really love repeating the same design throughout a quilt in different blocks to make the quilt cohesive overall.

I created all the lines with my favorite Edge rulers from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple. Here is a link to her stop: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/

I feel so lucky that Linda’s husband Scott is my Circle2 ruler manufacturer. He has been the greatest person I’ve worked with in the quilting industry.

I love love love this block. The simple lines and curves, create such beautiful textures!!!

I also quilted a stipple in the black background, which I did for another block as well. Which is the first design I teach in my Quilting It Freemotion course. Go to: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course/p/gn8izw5h2m5otf2xkq7zs7fax4vb6p

More blocks with curves and lines. I love the 1/4” pinstripes around the block in the black background in the block above as well as the angled lines in the block below. I used my 2”, 3”, and 4” Circle2 rulers for the curves in these blocks.

I quilted simple swirls and x’s in the square filler blocks. It’s fun to create a little texture in blocks that may typically be forgotten. They deserve a little attention, too.

I final look at one of the stars in the borders. It’s all about the details. If you need to scroll up and checkout the full quilt again. But first…

Below are my 2”, 3”, and 4” Circle2 rulers that are available in my shop. They also include the 8”, 9”, and 10” circles in the set, because there are two different sizes of circles per ruler. The rulers are made from 1/4” high quality acrylic in the USA. The circles come in a set of 6 and range in size from 2” up to 13”. Check them out in my shop: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop

Shirlene’s Jelly Strip Quilt

Creating quilty texture on quilts is one of my favorite parts of my job!!

Shirlene made this darling quilt. I’m waiting to hear what the pattern name is and who the designer is.

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, which is my most used thread color. It blends so beautifully. Click here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002 and don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off of your order.

I gave Shirlene a few options, and she chose Loopy Links by Melissa Kelley. It’s such good texture and quilts out beautifully!!! Go to: https://sewshabbypantos.com/products/loopy-link?_pos=1&_sid=9fead826a&_ss=r

I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, which is my first choice for a cotton poly blend batting.

A panto like this adds so much personality and softness to all the hard lines in the pattern.

Thanks for stopping by!! If you’re interested in having me quilt for you, check out my edge to edge quilting calendar and schedule a day or two. Go to: https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge

Angie’s Teddy Bear Baby Quilt

I have a darling baby boy quilt to share with you today!! Angie made this for her daughter’s best friend. So sweet!

I searched for a pattern and couldn’t find one. The bears and bow ties are appliquΓ©d on.

Because the bears are appliquΓ©d, Angie wanted some custom quilting. The back is also a thick minky, so I wanted to be careful not to quilt it too densely.

I decided on a grid in the background to line up with the squares in the sashing. Which I felt would enhance the bears but not be too dense.

To make the square sashing stand out and change up the quilting, I decided to treat them as four patches and quilt an x in them.

For all of the lines I used Edge rulers from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple. Go to: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/

I quilted around each bear and the in the bow ties, to help them pop. The bears are only about 4” to 5” tall.

I quilted a freehand squiggle line in the inner border and decided to do a 1/4” pinstripe in the outer border. I love love love the combination of all the lines!!

I used cream Omni thread from Superior Threads. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3004-cream-neutral/p/134-02-3004 And don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off your order.

I also used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles.

Check out the texture on the minky back!!

If you’re interested in having me quilt for you, check out my edge to edge calendar and schedule a day or two!! https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge for custom quilting, send me an email with a picture of your quilt and we will discuss what you’re hoping for the quilting. quiltingit@gmail.com

Heidi’s Grandma’s Flower Garden Quilt

Sooo excited to share Heidi’s Grandma’s Flower Garden quilt with you! When I saw this beautiful quilt I was in awe and hoped that Heidi would let me quilt it for her.

There are different ways to sew a Grandma’s Flower Garden quilt together. Some are just hexagons, and some have other pieces like the one Heidi made. She used diamonds and little triangles to frame the hexie flowers. This is a vintage pattern so you’ll have to Google different tutorials or videos to learn how to make one.

One of the amazing things about Heidiβ€˜s quilt, is that she fussy cut a lot of the pieces which creates an incredible overall design.

I sent Heidi a few options that I had drawn up on graph paper, and then we talked over the phone to finalize what she liked. She wanted classic custom quilting to focus on each of the pieces. Instead of an edge to edge design that wouldn’t quite lineup on the hexies.

I used an Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple. Her straight rulers are my favorite. Go to: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/

I quilted a vertical x in each of the hexies and a double looped diamond on the diamond pieces with an arc in the mini triangles. I freehand quilted pebble circles in the inner border and my Swirly Feather freehand design in the outer border. Both of which I teach in my Quilting It Freemotion video course. Check it out here: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course

I used Cream Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt it. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3004-cream-neutral/p/134-02-3004?show=Cones and don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout to get 15% off your order.

Heidi had never used bamboo batting and wanted to give it a try, so glad she did. The drape is beautiful!! I used Winline Textiles 4 oz bamboo, they also have a 6 oz bamboo which I also carry. My favorite battings!!

Heidi straightened up the edges of her hexies and added borders to help secure the edge, which is a great idea!

Thanks for stopping by! If you’re interested in having me quilt for you, check out my edge to edge quilting calendar and schedule a day or two. https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge

For custom quilting please email me at quilting@gmail.com with a picture of your quilt and we can discuss what you would like.

Isobel’s Disappearing Pinwheel Quilt

Are you looking for a fun quilt pattern that’s a twist on a classic simple block??? You’re in the right place.

Isobel made this beautiful Disappearing Pinwheel quilt. After googling it to find the pattern, I was assuming that Jenny from Missouri Star would have a blog post or video about it. It turns out she had several videos, one video for each block. But then I came across this other video that has 10 different variations of the disappearing pinwheel block. You’ll have to look on Missouri Stars YouTube channel if you would like to see Jenniβ€˜s videos or do a google search. The video below has quite a few if not all of the blocks that Isobel used. Isobel’s blocks are bigger than the one in the video linked below. For bigger blocks start with 8” or 9” squares.

https://youtu.be/ccRPtGlvVvo?si=cZX0FdkRrBRkZfS5

Isobel chose the Opal panto design, which is one of mine and Patricia Ritter’s. It’s available at Urban Elementz. Go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/opal.html It’s such a beautiful panto design that creates a lot of movement on the pinwheels.

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, it’s my go to color. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones and don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout to get 15% off your order.

Here are a few of the different blocks. The one above might be my favorite, but the fabric is also part of what I love.

I’ve never seen the block above before.

Or the arrow block below. Watch the video I linked above to see how easy it is to create these blocks.

I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, it’s my favorite 8020 that I’ve quilted.

Loving the quilty texture!!

Especially when there is minky on the back. So cozy!!!

Louise’s Christmas Serenade quilt

It’s that time of year when it’s time to start making your next Christmas quilt if you haven’t already started. This one is darling, made by Louise.

I searched high and low for a link to the pattern, which is called Christmas Serenade. Possibility from a Beginning Quilting series or book. I couldn’t find anything other than a short video on Instagram of someone having a quilt kit sent to them from a store in Arizona. But no pattern was listed. If you can find a flying geese pin wheel block, you might be in luck. Every other square is the background fabric, and finish it off with a scrappy square border. Here is a double flying geese pin wheel block that I found on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/655179681/flying-geese-pdf-quilt-block-pattern (this isn’t the pattern my client used…I couldn’t find her pattern)

The fabrics are from the Christmas at the Cabin, Art Gallery line.

Louise saw Patricia Ritter and my recently released Chantilly Snow panto, and wanted it on her quilt. I love the swirling snowflakes. Chantilly Snow is available at Urban Elementz, go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/chantilly-snow.html

This is a winter take on our original Chantilly panto, also available at Urban Elementz. Go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/chantilly.html

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt it. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones …don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off your order.

Look at that darling quilty texture!!

Louise wanted to try the 4 oz bamboo batting that I carry. It’s from Winline Textiles, and has the best drape and it’s sooo soft. It’s eco-friendly and does cost a little more than the 8020, but not much.

The backing is a cozy white minky, which coupled with the bamboo batting its extra soft.

Look at the quilty texture on the backing, too!! This is why I love solid minky!!

Louise’s Summer Row Quilt

Before summer officially ends…school starts tomorrow, so it kind of feels like it’s over, I want to share Louise’s Summer Row quilt. That’s not an official pattern name because she used blocks from multiple patterns and made this darling quilt. I’ll do my best to link the different patterns to each of the blocks below.

First off I love the blocks that she chose. They go together so well!!

Let’s pause and look at that darling quilty texture!! More on that in a minute.

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, it blends so beautifully!! You can find it here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones Don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code at checkout β€œASTLEISHA” to get 15% off your order.

Louise suggested a couple of designs, and after we talked she decided on our Liberty panto, which I always love to quilt out one of my designs on a client quilt. This design is Patricia Ritter’s and mine, and it’s available at Urban Elementz. Go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/liberty.html

Liberty is such a darling design! I may be a little biased though. πŸ˜„

The houses are from Sherri from A Quilting Life β€œHome Sweet Home” quilt. You can find it here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1369715403/home-sweet-home-row-quilt-pattern-pdf

The 8-pointed star is also part of Sherri’s pattern. (Pictured above the Liberty panto picture)

Louise said the strawberry blocks were from Fab Farm, I’m not finding a pattern for them though.

She didn’t mention what pattern this star is from, it is appliquΓ©d.

The baskets are from Worktable Block. I couldn’t find a pattern for that one either. So sorry!

I used 8020 batting from Winline Textiles, which is my favorite 8020.

If you’re interested in having me quilt for you, check out my edge to edge calendar and schedule a day or two. Go to: https://calendly.com/quiltingit/edgetoedge
