Sharon’s Edgar the Raven Quilt

I’ve quilted a few Legit Kit quilts before, and they’re always so incredible!!! Sharon did an excellent job on Edgar the Raven.

Sharon and I discussed a variety of different textures and freehand quilting designs, and this is how it turned out. I love the textures together!!

The fabric colors are so vibrant I did not even have to edit these pictures. The colors are bold in all the right ways.

I freehand quilted a combination of swirls, waves, pebbles, and arcs. All to create movement and texture. I teach a lot of these elements individually in my Quilting It Freemotion course. Check it out here: https://www.quiltingit.com/quilting-it-freemotion-course

I quilted straight lines in the legs and talons, with a wood grain in the branch he’s perched on. Woodgrain is also a design that I teach in my freemotion course.

I used three different colors of Omni thread, I quilted the entire background with Orange Peel #3154, which is definitely more visible on the yellow fabrics, but I thought it still blended beautifully. Here is the link: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3154-orange-peel/p/134-02-3154?show=Cones

I used Navy Blue #3109 for the entire body of the bird, except the eye, which I used the same Orange Peel color. Navy Blue can be found here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3109-navy-blue/p/134-02-3109?show=Cones

I used Steel Blue #3110 for the branch. Which blended beautifully. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3110-steel-blue/p/134-02-3110?show=Cones

And don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout for 15% off your order.

I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, which is the most commonly used batting by my clients. You can find it here: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm
