Ramona’s ~ Let’s Go Fly a Kite
Our great friend Ramona comes to sew with us every week, which I’m so grateful for. She recently finished the front of this super cute kite bench pillow, pattern by Kimberbell Designs. She added the cute hand embroidered words “Let’s Go Fly a Kite”, to the open space. I love it!!! If you haven’t heard about Kimberbell’s bench pillows, head on over to her website. I love quilting the freehand swirls to look like wind...it’s one of my most favorite textures.
In the larger kite I used Linda from The Quilted Pineapple’s 12” edge ruler. Her rulers are my absolute favorites!!! I also used a 3” circle ruler, made by a company that’s no longer in business, to quilt the petals in the flying geese. Everything else was done freehand. I also used my favorite Winline 8020 batting, and a 30 tex Perma Core A&E white thread.
Isn’t that Let’s Go Fly a Kite, such a great addition!!! I love it!

Sherry’s Dog Gone Cute quilt!

I used a white 30 Tex Perma Core A&E thread, which I think blends well on the background. I also used my favorite Winline 8020 cotton poly blend batting.
Puppies are just sooo cute!
I shrunk the Diagonal Plaid pantograph down to around 4” for this pillow front, and it quilted out great!!!

Loranne’s 🇺🇸 Flag quilt
Loranne made this beautiful flag quilt, the pattern is Fifteen Stars by Wilma Moss of Brick cottage Quilts. She contacted me through my website and requested some custom quilting and shared a picture with me. So I drew out the design I ended up quilted out on some graph paper first, and then sent it to her. I love when something drawn on paper comes to life. This first picture isn’t the best, but those rays of sunshine coming through the window were perfect. ❤️💙❤️
I used Linda from The Quilted Pineapple’s 16” edge ruler to quilt all the lines. Because of the awesome lines on her rulers, I didn’t need to mark anything with a water soluble pen. I freehand quilted the swirls and pebbles.
I used coordinating threads from A&E. I also used my favorite 8020 cotton poly blend batting, from Winline.
Star quilts like this one are my favorite!! Reminds me of all the things I’m so grateful for living in America, and all those who have sacrificed so much for us to have the freedoms that we have.
I love the added dimension the pattern gives this quilt. It’s beautiful!! I wanted to add the stars for a great break from all the lines in the angled blocks, and I love the burst lines that come off of the red stars.

Beth’s Llama quilt
Beth is the sweetest person ever!! She made this for her daughters friend who is getting married.
The pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman and is called Lloyd & Lola. Elizabeth has so many fun patterns!!!
I decided to quilt out Patricia Ritter and my “Bubble Wrap Double Take”©️ design on it. I think it adds a fun texture, especially since the backing is Cuddle (Minky) by Shannon Fabrics. So, that’s how I get the design to run vertical on the quilt.
Aren’t those two sooo cute! I used some dark grey Omni thread, and Beth brought a cotton/poly blend batting.
Beth also added the names of the couple she’s giving the quilt to. I’m not sure what letter pattern she used, but I know that Moda has a letter pattern...it might be called Spell It Moda...or something like that.

Sherry’s Gnome quilts!!
Sherry made two gnome quilts for her boys. I posted a picture of them as I was quilting them, and said I didn’t know the name of the patterns...because I’m often asked what they are. Two wonderful ladies told me, one on Facebook and one on Instagram, that the name of the pattern is A Tale of Two Gnomes by Abbey Lane Quilts.
When Sherry dropped her quilts off, she showed me a picture of the quilting she saw on the quilt sample in a quilt shop. It was an all over swirl. I was excited because Patricia Ritter and I have a design with swirls called Twirl©️. I hadn’t quilted it out yet, and was so excited to finally quilt it on not one but both of these cute gnome quilts. I used a cream thread from A&E in their Perma Core 30 Tex line...my two favorite colors are Dyed Natural and Antique Cream.
He’s one of my favorites!!! Those swirls or “twirls” are so cute!!

I used my favorite 8020 Winline cotton/poly blend batting. It’s a little thicker than Hobbs and softer too.

Abby’s T-Shirt quilt
Abby from Orange Peel Sews made this quilt for a customer. Her Etsy store is https://www.etsy.com/shop/orangepeel
Her customer sent her a variety of different types of clothing...even a wedding vail, and Abby did a beautiful job. Because of the textures and dimensional blocks, we decided a freehand stipple design would be best for the quilting. It’s fun to do the quilting design I was taught in the very beginning of my quilting career. It’s timeless.
I used a white Perma Core thread from A&E and it’s a 30 Tex. I also used my favorite Winline 8020 cotton poly blend batting.
I love that Abby cut up some of the big shirts in half and laid them out beside each other, it’s a great way to get those big logos in the smaller 8” or 9” blocks.

Beth’s Vintage Holiday quilt
Beth made this super cute “Vintage Holiday” (pattern by Thimble Blossoms), for a store sample for Stylish Fabrics in Logan, Utah. She used the new Christmas line by Bonnie and Camille, Vintage Holiday.
Beth asked me to use Patricia Ritter and my Marmalade©️ design, to quilt it. Marmalade is so vercital, I’ve seen it on several different kinds of quilts with a variety of fabrics and patterns. This is the cutest ornament quilt I’ve seen!
Beth also made a mini quilt version of this quilt, and I was able to shrink the design down to just under 5”. Which was perfect for the mini quilt.
Here is a great size comparison for the quilting on the regular and mini quilt. I’m trying to remember, but I think the size of the quilting pattern on the regular quilt was just over 9” and for the mini it was just under 5”.

The Lunch Ladies quilt
One of the lunch ladies that worked at the high school I graduated from, is retireing after 28 years. The other lunch ladies decided to get together and make her a quilt.
They used lots of their old work clothes as blocks for the quilt, and then had some blocks embroidered by a local place called The Logo Shop. The Logo Shop has embroidered several things on my clients quilts over the years, they always do a fantastic job.
My sweet friend Lori had me do the quilting, and she wanted something with loops or swirls, and this beautiful Soho design by Sarah Ann Myers and is available at Urban Elementz. Jeanne’s 💕 quilt
There are special times when a quilt is more than just a quilt. Times when it brings extra comfort and love, especially in hard times. This is one of those quilts. Made by Jeanne for a friend who is going to start chemo soon for breast cancer. I’d like to think there is extra love in the making of a quilt Iike this, and I feel grateful to have been part of it.

Baby ➕➕➕ quilt
I love this quilt that my mom made for one of my cousins, who is having her first baby. I also love navy and ➕’s, such a great combo.
I have seen several tutorials on plus quilts, using longer strips of fabric, instead of cutting a bunch of 5” squares and laying them out. Search plus quilts and you should find some. I love that the strips are running vertical in this one, normally the ones that I see all run horizontal...it’s nice to see another option. Both are great!

Heather’s Airplane baby quilt
Heather made this sweet quilt using airplane fabrics and some of her grandson’s clothing. She told me it was going to hang on her grandson’s bedroom wall, so I wanted to add a custom touch.
The following pictures are close ups on different parts of the quilt and then a picture of the full quilt at the end. I love all the texture that the lines added to the random sized blocks. I used two of Linda from the Quilted Pineapple, edge rulers to do the straight lines. I love her 8” and 12” rulers. I could have done the quilting with just one ruler, but I like using the 8”, and there are times when I needed the ruler to be a little longer. That’s when I used the 12” ruler.
I quilted this with a yellowy cream Perma Core thread from A&E, and Heather brought a Hobbs batting.
I just love seeing the designs complement one another.
On some of these blocks I used a purple water soluble pen for marking reference dots. That way the quilting and is more proscise and is a lot quicker to quilt out.
The full shot! I love the personality that quilting brings to the quilts.

Shamrock Runner
Laurie made this cute shamrock table runner and requested an edge to edge design on it.
When going about choosing a design to quilt, especially if I get to choose, I look at the fabrics or quilt pattern, and choose something that will coordinate well. I got this fun Cheerios pantograph design from Natalia Bonner awhile back, and it was fun to finally have something to use it on. Isn’t that texture so great!
I used a white Perma Core 30 tex thread from A&E, and 8020 cotton/poly blend batting from Winline Textiles.
I love the additional design that you can see where the circles overlap. It will be fun to use this quilting design again.

Kathy’s Bjorn Bear and + quilt!

I used a light grey A&E Perma Core tex 30 polyester wrapped polyester thread for the quilting on this quilt, and the 8020 Winline batting that I love.
I used my Gammill Statler longarm machine to quilt out both of these quilts. I’m grateful the computer can quilt out such beautiful geometric designs for me.

Chris’ Hawaiian Flower quilt
Chis picked up these lovely rayon flower fabrics from Jams World, while in Hawaii, and she thought she would try and make them into a quilt. I love the pops of color and patterns in the fabrics.
I used my usual polyester wrapped polyester thread and the same machine needles use on all my quilting, to quilt it. The stitches look great! I didn’t have a problem with it skipping stitches, which is a relief. Chris loved Patricia Ritter and my Ginger©️ design for the quilting on this one. My suggestion for making quilts out of fabrics like these, is to treat them like you would a t-shirt quilt and use an interfacing on the back of each square. You can see that some of the blocks aren’t straight along the seams. That isn’t because Chris didn’t sew or cut them straight, that’s just what happens when fabrics that have a little bit of stretch are quilted. Chris used a cotton fabric for a small border and that definitely helped keep things square along the edges.
I also offer binding services, except for quilts backed with minky or cuddle. $.25 a running inch. I only hand bind. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Sherry’s Disappearing 9 Patch quilt
If you need to make a fast cozy quilt, grab your favorite flannel layer cake and make a Disappearing 9 Patch! This was made using layer cake size (10”) squares, however I’ve also made one using charm pack squares (5”). If you google Disappearing 9 Patch quilt, there are lots of free tutorials, and different ways to layout the squares. You can also use regular cotton fabrics with this pattern, too, I did.
Sherry made this one using the softest flannel fabrics, for both the back and the front. I decided to quilt Diagonal Plaid by Patricia Ritter on it. Diagonal Plaid is available at https://www.urbanelementz.com/?acc=12 then search Diagonal Plaid.

Sherry’s Greenhouse quilt
I love love this quilt! Sherry made this quilt using Elizabeth Hartman’s “Greenhouse” quilt pattern. I love her fabric choices, the combinations of color and pattern.
Sherry requested Modern Loops for the quilting, which I think is a great combination with the fabrics and quilt pattern. Modern Loops is a design that came on my Statler Gammill machine. This quilt is quilted use my Statler computer.
I used a 30 tex A&E Perma Core white thread and a 8020 cotton/poly blend batting. Because it’s hard to get the full quilt pictured, I decided to share this picture of the left side of the quilt (above), and the right side (below). Aren’t the jewel tones amazing?!?!

Chris’ beautiful makes!
All of these beautiful makes were done by Chris, except for this first quilt, her husband made his Frits quilt. I think it’s fun that he wanted to see what the quilting process is all about. When I saw the fabrics on her husband’s quilt, I suggested Patricia Ritter and my Cedar©️ design, which I haven’t quilted out yet. I was so excited when he gave me the go ahead. All the batting and thread used on all of these projects is 30 Tex A&E Perma Core poly wrapped poly thread...except for the Kaffe quilt, and 8020 cotton poly batting.

Chris made this beautiful log cabin quilt to add some fun color to their trailer to enjoy when they go camping. She used Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

I did use a variegated thread on this quilt by A&E it’s one of their Signature threads that is 100% cotton and 40 Tex. It’s always fun to try and match variegated thread on such colorful quilts.
Next up are these three cute bench pillow fronts, patterns by Kimberbell Designs. I’ve quilted many of these before. My clients use muslin or a cream or white cotton fabric for the backing because they’ll attach the backing fabric and stuff their bench pillow inside. Each of these pillows come with additional dimensional pieces to add more texture. They are added after quilting is done, so that is why they aren’t pictured here. Check Kimberbell’s website for pictures on those details. https://www.kimberbelldesigns.com/ These pillows started out as traditional appliqué, now Kim has them also in machine embroidery patterns as well. You’ll have to check on her website for all the details. Each of these pieces was made using the embroidery patterns.
I do love to use one piece of backing fabric, if I can, especially when the pieces being quilted are so small. So, I baste one on...quilt it...roll the backing on the quilt frame...baste another one on...and so on until I have everything added on and quilted. I have even done this with 3 throws that have a minky backing. There is some great space in the throat of the longarm, which allows this.
First up...the flower pots...Chris made them to match the pots that she has on her front porch, which I think is clever.
All the quilting done on the rest of these projects is free motion, meaning it’s hand guided. No computer. I used my favorite 8” edge ruler from Linda at TheQuiltedPineapple.com to quilt the flower pots in a variety of different line designs. I did an all over swirly feather in the background of the pots and ribbon candy border design.
Next up, is the Welcome Spring pillow front. I love the rain boots! I did wavy lines to add texture to the boots. I decided on pebbles and swirls to mimick bubbles and ripples in puddles, for the background.
There will be flowers on the stems coming out of the boots. I love that cute little umbrella. I used a 5” circle ruler to quilt the curved lines inside.
Land that I love is the last of the three quilted onto the same backing fabric. I added some stars inside some of the circles, with the addition of swirls, it’s some fun textures for the background.
Along the sides, in the patchwork squares, I quilted a four pointed star in the squares down the center and then added some alternating diamonds down each of the sides, I love the design it created. I never know quite what things will look like as I’m quilting them, until it’s done. That’s one of my favorite parts is seeing all of the designs together. I used Linda’s 8” edge ruler for this one too. I did freehand pebbles in the inner light blue border, then I used a circle ruler (I can’t remember the size) to quilt the curves inside the navy inner border.
Here is a close up of the different lines I quilted in the bunting flags.
Next up is a birthday banner! This is also a Kimberbell pattern, Chris is making it into a banner instead of a pillow, so she brought a fabric like the borders down the sides, for the backing.
I used Linda from theQuiltedPineapple.com 12” edge ruler for these lines because the 8” isn’t long enough. I started with diagonal lines every inch, starting on the bottom left and working to the top right, then I can use the lines on the ruler for spacing as I’m quilting. If I quilted the opposite direction, I would be ahead of the lines I’m quilting, and wouldn’t have a line to use to line up to the lines on the ruler. So, if your new to quilting or ruler work, always quilt in a direction where you can use the lines you already quilted. Most of the time you won’t need to mark anything. After doing the inch diagonal lines, I do vertical inch lines. It creates the cross hatch angled diamond look.
I stippled the background to make the banner universal for everyone’s birthday. The red rope is there to attach letters to for whomever’s birthday it is.
Here is a close up on the birthday cake. Lines lines lines are always a fun texture to add with the stipple or pebble background filler designs. I used Linda’s 8” ruler again for these lines.
Last, but certainly not least is this sweet log cabin table runner. Kits are available on ShabbyFabrics.com ...however, be mindful if you want to have your runner machine quilted, they don’t provide enough backing for pinning to the machine canvas’.
Chris wanted it quilted like the ones that are pictured on shappyfabrics.com. Feathers in the log cabin blocks and wavy lines along the thinner outside border.

Whimsical Garden quilt, made by Beth.
Beth made this absolutely stunning needle turn quilt, pattern is Whimsical Garden by Sue Daley. She requested dense custom quilting and on point cross hatch. To say that was excited was an understatement!! Beth asked how much I like doing double batts, and I love the combo of 8020 cotton/poly on the bottom with a wool layer on top of that. The loft and texture it creates with the quilting is just perfect!
This is when it was fresh off the longarm. It’s so fun to sit and look at quilts when they are done, and see how everything looks all together.
I was talking with a friend about combining different textures when I quilt...the hard lines...the scallops...and then the free random fillers. They work together so well. Different scales are important, especially with lines, weither the lines are curved or straight. I did 1/2” lines in the outside border, and 1” squares on the inner grey border. For both sets of lines I used Linda from The Quilted Pineapple edge rulers. I used the 8” for the outside border, it’s shorter, and the 12” for the inner border because it’s longer for the cross hatching.
When deciding on the size of scallops to do along the edge of the borders, I measured the width and length, and the lowest divisible number was 3”. So I measured every 3” and marked it, and then I used a 3” circle ruler to quilt from mark to mark. I used a 4” circle ruler to quilt the quarter inch echoed line outside the scallop. I could have left the original scallops and not echoed, however I think the scallops would have been a little lost next to all the free hand filler in the white fabrics. I love to enchanted things just a touch more. I did a 4” scallop on the center piece, using a 4” and 5” circle ruler.
I used like I mentioned above, a base layer of 8020 batting and topped it with a wool layer to get that fabulous texture. I also used a 30 tex cream Perma Core A&E thread and a light grey thread for the center grey border.
A couple of close ups...I freehand quilted everything else in the cream backgrounds.
Beth did an absolutely beautiful job with all the hand appliqué.

Ramona’s watermelon bench pillow front
Ramona make this super cute watermelon bench pillow front, the pattern is by Kimberbell Designs. I love the patchwork watermelon, and the mix of beautiful reds. Now she will add the back and a zipper, then stuff her BIG bench pillow in it. I used a couple of different circle rulers for the orange peel look, and then freehanded the rest of the quilting. Doing the freehand crackle in backgrounds is easy and a fast filler. Any requests for a video?
I used a white 30 tex Perma Core thread from A&E, and a 8020 cotton poly batting.
