My All the Things Tote
Hello Friend!!
Happy New Year! I hope your new year is off to a great start with many fun sewing projects to look forward to this year.
I sewed again over my break, and Iβm excited to share with you what I madeβ¦
Have you seen the new All the Things Tote by Kait at Knot & Thread??? Kait released the pattern in December. Kaitβs the one who also did the Patchwork Duffle pattern for the duffle bag that I just made, click on that link to check out my bag.
The All the Things Tote pattern comes with three different sizes to choose from, I made the medium or 16β size. As you can see in the pictures below, itβs perfect size for my english paper piecing project.
If youβre new to bag making, this is a great place to start!! Kait knows how to create well written beautiful patterns.
When I saw the white floral, I knew I wanted to use it for this bag, but if I used the white on the bottom it would definitely get dirty. Thatβs when I had the thought to piece the body of the tote and pocket fronts. I cut the raspberry dashed fabric at 1.5β, the light weight denim which I used for the base at 17β and then the white floral pieces at 8β or 9β each. Plan on the fabric shrinking some when itβs pieced at quilted. For the pocket panels, I made them the same size as the side panel which is behind the pocket, so I could trim the pocket down to line up with the stripe on the fabric for the main part of the tote. To line them up, I laid the fabric for the bag flat, then laid the side panel on topβ¦lining up the binding edges. Then I placed the pocket front on top of the size panel. I then shifted the pocket front down to line up the stripe with the stripe on the bag, then I marked the pocket front along the bottom to trim off the excess that hangs over the side panel. Then I trimmed the top of the pocket front to the size indicated in the pattern. Then I attached the binding across the top edge of the pocket front. Next I sew the side panel and pocket together, as indicated in the pattern.
I got the floral, teal, and raspberry fabrics from Heartfully Handmade β¦sheβs closing her shop and has some great deals, go check it out and get yourself some beautiful fabrics. The floral is Whimsical Romance by Keera Job Design Studio for Riley Blake. The raspberry dash fabric is by Cotton + Steel and is their Stitch and Repeat basics print. The teal fabric is Bee Cross Stitch by Lori Holt from Riley Blake. Heartfully Heandmade has some of the floral and raspberry dash in stock, when sheβs out youβll have to search for them in another shop.
I got the Art Gallery Denim, which I used on the bottom from my mom and auntβs online shop Sisters and Quilters. They have such a beautiful selection of fabrics to choose from.
My βhandmade by Leisha Kayeβ label was made by Custom Labels 4 U. I love them, and put them in the binding of each of my quilts and bags.
I love the pops of color together!!!
I used a Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt itβ¦which is my favorite white.
I got the 1.5β Poly Pro Strapping and Base Stabilizer from Kaitβs shop. When you go get the pattern, be sure to pick them up. She also sells the Soft and Stable.
When I make bags I prefer to use Soft and Stable over batting. Sewing with the foam makes sewing those bulky seams a breeze. Itβs pretty amazing stuff. I got it from my mom and auntβs shop. When you open up the Soft and Stable there will be lines from the folds, no worriesβ¦they iron right out. I use a dry iron on cotton setting, the folds come right out. If youβd like to, you can spray it with water as you iron.
As you can see, I already know what Iβm using my All the Things Tote forβ¦my hexie flower quilt. The perfect tote to take βall the thingsβ Iβll need when I go sew with my friends.
My Orla Kiely train case fits perfectly inside. The train case I found at target over 7 years ago, and I havenβt seen one like it in quite a few years.
Here is a little peak inside of my train case. See what I mean when I said βall the thingsβ.
I hope you enjoyed looking at my newest sewing project!! I hope youβll give this one a try. Itβs fun, and oh so cute.
Happy quilting, Leisha
My Patchwork Duffle Bag
Hi Friends,
I hope youβre holidays are going wonderfully. We had a great time together yesterday, and have more plans to celebrate this week. I snuck in some of my own sewing last week, and I canβt wait to share.
Have you made a Patchwork Duffle yet? Itβs such a fun pattern by my good friend Kait from Knot and Thread. This is the second one Iβve made, you can see the first one here. Kait designed this pattern to use up some of your scraps , and make a patchwork version. Check out her instagram to see several patchwork versions of her duffle bag. She also offers instructions to use a piece of fabric for the exterior, like it did.
I used the Watercress fabric from the Elixir line by Melody Miller from Ruby Star Society for the exterior fabric, and the Elixir Peace Cream for the lining. The handles are a solid green art gallery fabric, that matches beautifully.
I had my labels made by Custom Labels 4 U. I initially got them to add to quilts, and thought why not add them to my bagsβ¦they are a fun touch!
Kait has a couple of different options in her patternβ¦she suggests using Soft and Stable or a batting scrap. I used Soft and Stable. Have you sewn with it yet? I have loved using it every time. Itβs so easy to sew with!!! It adds great body to a bag or duffle. You can see how great this is standing upβ¦there is nothing inside.
I got the cutest striped zipper by the yard and hardware from Kaitβs shop. She has everything youβll need, except for the fabric. I got the rose gold hardware to match the zipperβ¦which is so beautiful with the Elixir fabric, that has a little rose gold metallic color on some of the leaves.
You can see the lining, which is so beautiful with the exterior fabric.
I used my Kapari panto (digital quilting) design to quilt the fabricβ¦the quilty texture it creates is one of my favorites. If you havenβt used it yet, you should!!! It quilts out fast and beautifully.
I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt it, and another white to sew the bag together. I didnβt have a green thread, so I checked with my mom and she let me use some green embroidery thread to do all the top stitching on the green fabric.
Kait has a great video tutorial, which she teaches us how to make a carrying strap. The hardware for this strap and the fabric, isnβt included in the pattern, so check out her video to get all the requirements.
Iβm so excited to use this bag!! Itβs such a great size. Iβm heading to my auntβs cabin this week, and Iβll be sure to take it along.
Kait has another new bag pattern, call the All the Things Tote. Which Iβm planning to make next!
Thanks for stopping by!! Have a wonderful New Year celebration. I appreciate your support this year!!
Happy quilting, Leisha.
Kathyβs Flower Shop Quilt
Hi there,
I hope youβre ready for Christmas, I canβt believe itβs nearly here. Iβm excited to share with you this amazing quilt that Kathy made!
The pattern is called βFlower Shopβ by Karen Cunningham, and itβs in her βA Ladiesβ Gardenβ book.
Kathy requested custom quilting, so I did what I could to make each part shine!
I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads on the entire quilt. She also requested the 6oz. bamboo batting from Winline Textiles. Itβs my all time favorite batting. That extra loft enhances the custom quilting texture.
Kathy fussy cut a lot of the fabrics, and suggested some orange peels to highlight the squares, so I pulled out my 5β Circle2 ruler and got started. My Circle2 rulers come in a set of 6 rulers, made in America with high quality 1/4β acrylic. They are available in my shop.
Circle2 Rulers - Design Patent D875,574 -
I quilted freehand feathers in the outer border, more orange peels in the little squares. I quilted a 1/2β grid in all of the pink triangles along the border with an Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple.
I quilted some freehand Overlapping Circles in the background behind the flower blocks. Overlapping Circles is one of my Quilting It Freemotion videos, which are available in my shop. If youβre interested in learning how to freemotion quilt, youβll have to go check them out.
With all the appliquΓ©, I didnβt quilt anything inside them instead I just quilted around them to make them stand out more.
Look at all those beautiful details!
Do you like to appliquΓ©? I used to do a lot of appliquΓ© when I first started quilting, not so much any more. Itβs so beautiful!
Do you have anything youβd like to have machine quilted? Iβd love to quilt for you!! Send me an email and I can get you on my schedule. quiltingit@gmail.com
Thank you!! Happy quilting, Leisha.
Kathyβs Santa Quilt
If youβre following along on my instagram, @leishakaye β¦then you may have seen this beautiful quilt at the beginning of November. Excited to share with you all the details!!!
Kathy made this quilt years ago, and she wanted to finally get it quilted. The embroidery patterns are out of print, they are by Kathy Pace from Gooseberry Hill. I did see some of the patterns on eBay when I searched her name. If youβre interested, youβll have to do some more searching to find the rest of them. Kathy made traditional chaining blocks to frame the Santaβs.
I used the Citrus Mint Omni 3081 thread from Superior Threads, which matched the background fabric perfectly!!
I used a 6 oz bamboo batting from Winline Textiles. Itβs my absolute favorite batting!! The loft is nice, too!
I used my 3β and 10β Circle2 rulers to quilt all the curves in the chaining blocks. (Below is my 3/9β ruler) The small orange peel petals were quilted with the 3β ruler, and the arcs were quilted with my 10β ruler. This circle ruler set has been so nice to have. There are 6 rulers in my Circle2 machine quilting circle rulers, the circles ranging from 2β up to 13β. They are made in America with 1/4β high quality acrylic. - Design Patent D875,574 -
I also used Linda from The Quilted Pineapple Edge rulers for the straight lines inside the little squares and sashing.
I quilted freehand pebbles in the background and quilted lightly in the hand embroidery, just so the blocks wouldnβt be too puffy. If youβre interested in learning how to quilt freemotion, you should check out my Quilting It Freemotion course that is available in my shop. I teach 10 different quilting designs, like these Pebbles. You can pick and choose which design youβd like to learn! Itβs completely self paced. Join me!!!
My Swirly Feather, which I quilted in the border on this quilt, is also another one of the designs that I teach. Itβs great over an entire quilt, a border, or inside appliquΓ©β¦skies the limit.
Here are some close up pics on the Santaβs. Such beautiful handwork by Kathy!
Seriously beautiful details!
This is why I love what I doβ¦adding beautiful quilting textures that help a quilt come alive.
One more picture of that center section. My favorite!! Itβs so fun for me to see a design like this come together.
You can see how the four corner blocks link so beautifully with the center.
One last quilty view. β€οΈ
If youβre interested in having me quilt for you, send me an email and Iβll get you on my schedule. quiltingit@gmail.com *noteβ¦custom quilting spots are limited. Please donβt wait to contact me if you have something youβd like custom quilted.
Thanks for stopping by! Happy holidays, and quilting. Leisha
Kimβs Movement in Squares Quilt
Excited to share with you this fun modern quilt!!!
Kim made this cool geometric quilt for her son, lucky him!! The FREE pattern is called Movement in Squares by Wendy Sheppard.
I love Kimβs choice to colors, the pops of green are so stringing.
I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, which blends so nice on so many quilts.
Kim requested Sprawl, by Jess from the Longarm League, for the quilting design. I love how it turned out. Iβm excited to use it again.
Kim wanted a double layer of batting, so I put Winlineβs 8020 cotton poly blend batting on the bottom, and Hobbs wool on top. I love that combination. Iβve done it on a few of my own quilts.
Are you interested in having me quilt something for you? Send me an email, and Iβll add you to my schedule. quiltingit@gmail.com
Thanks for coming by, happy quilting!! Leisha
Kathyβs Shadowed Daisy Quilt
Hi there,
I have a beautiful quilt to share with you today!!!
Kathy made this lovely Shadowed Daisy quilt, and she did her own block arrangement. The pattern shows all the white background pieces on the right side. I love what Kathy did!!! The pattern is by Evelyn L. McCarty, who was a pattern and template designer years ago. She has since passed away, so I couldnβt find this pattern online. Maybe check with your local shop, and see if they can order it from their distributors.
Kathy requested wool batting, which added some lovely loft to all this custom quilting. I use the Hobbs wool, and itβs delightful. Iβve loved using it in some of my own quilts.
I used my favorite Edge rulers from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt all the lines.
Kathy wanted something quilted in the white fabrics to help it stand out, so I drew out a designβ¦which Iβll show you in a moment, and sent it to her. I was trying to figure out something to quilt behind the daisyβs to soften all the hard lines that I had already quilted. I decided on my freehand Overlapping Circles which is one of the designs that I teach in my Quilting It Freemotion course. If youβre interested in learning how to quilt freemotion, you should check it out!!
Here is my drawingβ¦as you can see I didnβt draw out the Overlapping Circles. Sometimes I have to quilt a portion of a design out, to then figure out what else to quilt.
I used a few of my Circle2 machine quilting circle rulers to quilt all the curves. I used the 4β Circle2 ruler for the petals in the center of the arc design. I used the 13β ruler for the lovely arcs in the white. For all the curves in the flower petals and the ones in the border, I used the 7β Circle2 ruler. Below is the 4β/10β ruler in clear. Each set comes with 6 rulers, with two sizes of circles per ruler. The circles range in size from 2β up to 13β. They are made from 1/4β high quality acrylic in America. This set is so versatile.
- Design Patent D875,574 -
Here is a close up!! So much great quilty texture.
I used cream Omni 3004 thread from Superior Threads for the entire quilt, with the exception of the navy and green thin borders. I used threads that match the fabrics.
The back on this quilt is so pretty!!! Itβs fun for me to see all my hard work look so wonderful together.
Thanks for stopping by!! If youβre interested in having me quilt for you, send me an email at quiltingit@gmail.com and Iβll get you on my schedule. Because custom quilting can take longer than edge to edge quilting, Iβm going to schedule only a limited amount each month.
Have a wonderful day!! Happy quilting! Leisha
Meganβs Patchwork Swoon quilt
With Christmas just around the corner, check out this beautiful quilt that Megan made!
The pattern is called Patchwork Swoon by Camille from Thimble Blossoms. During the summer Camille was hosting a Summer Swoonalong, and I offered a prize, which Megan won!! She got $100 towards longarm services.
I love this Christmas version!! Such a beautiful quilt!
Megan let me choose the design, so I went with Patricia Ritter and my Merriment quilting design, which is available at Urban Elementz. It goes perfectly with the holly berries in the fabrics.
I used my favorite 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, and my favorite cream (3004) Omni thread from Superior Threads.
Look at all that glorious texture!!!
Are you interested in having me quilt a quilt for you? Send me an email, and Iβll get you on my schedule. quiltingit@gmail.com

How sweet is this quilt that Kim made for her daughter??? She used to show sheep at the county fairβ¦Kim even added a black sheep for fun!
The pattern is by Corey Yoder from Coriander Quilts and is called Wooly Stars. So cute!!
I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, and 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles out of Utah.
I gave Kim a few choices and she chose Patricia Ritter and my Tahitian Pearl quilting design. I love how it turned out!!
Close up!!
That quilty texture is sooo good!
And, a couple of minky pics!! Seriously good texture.
A swirly minky goodness. This is why I always recommend solid minky!!! The quilting design adds such fun texture.

Barbaraβs Confetti Cabin Quilt
I have loved sharing all the colorful quilts latelyβ¦and here is one more!!
Barbara made this fun Confetti Cabin Quilt, amazing huh?!?! The pattern is FREE on the Moda Fabrics website and itβs by Kristina from Center Street Quilts.
Barbara used ombrΓ© confetti fabrics from Vanessa from V&Co, and I think itβs so beautiful. I love the vibrant colors!!!
I used the fun Mod Dotz quilting design by Patricia Ritter from Urban Elementz, to quilt it. This design is so versatile, Iβve used it several times over the years. If youβre looking to add a design to your machine, grab this one.
I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles and Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads.
The dots in the fabrics and quilting design go so great together!!! Love it!
Have you made an ombrΓ© quilt yet? If not, you should. They are so fun!!

Debbieβs Tumbler Quilts
I have a couple of fun tumbler quilts to share with you!! If I remember right, they were kits from the local quilt shop. Cut and ready to sew together, which is great because all the fabrics go together so well!
How beautiful are these colors and prints together?!?! I love them. If youβre looking for a simple quilt which will show off the fabrics, a tumbler quilt is a great option.
I gave Debbie a few design options and she chose Leafy Bloom by Jess from The Longarm League. Itβs such a beautiful design!
I used a golden tan Omni thread from Superior Threads and 8020 cotton poly blend batting.
For a design like this that is on a horizontal line, I did offset itβ¦which Jess recommends, but I also made the design smaller than the tumblers so that I didnβt have to line the design up perfectly in each row. I think it turned out great.
What questions do you have about quilting? Comment below.
A good minky swirl, look at that texture!!
Here is another tumbler quilt, with brighter more summery fabrics.
I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, which is the perfect white color in my opinion.
I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, which is my favorite 8020 batting Iβve used.
I chose Triplet for the quilting, and itβs a perfect panto with all of these floral fabrics. Itβs from Shelly from Ma Tante Quilting panto shop, designed by her mum. Itβs a classic and stitches out beautifully. If you donβt have it yet, you should get it!!
Look how sweet Triplet is, and I love the name. So clever!
A couple of more picturesβ¦enjoy!
Look at that fun quilty texture on the minky backing. Love it!!

Deniseβs OmbrΓ© Gems Quilt
Oh, boyβ¦do I have a quilt to share with you!!!
This beautiful quilt is Deniseβs OmbrΓ© Gems quiltβ¦amazing, huh?!?! The pattern is by the oh so kind Emily Dennis from Quilty Love. I have made this quilt too, and itβs definitely one of my favorite makes. Emily even tells you how to cut the ombrΓ© fabrics to get the cool effect inside each block. Denise used the confetti ombrΓ© fabrics from V&Co.
I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, and 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline.
I gave Denise a few options and she chose Amberly by Keryn Emmerson. I LOVE IT!!! I think the quilting design with the confetti dotsβ¦is just sooo good! I also love curves quilted on this quilt, it helps soften all those hard lines.
If youβre looking for a fun and colorful project, try this one outβ¦you wonβt be disappointed.
A few more pictures, just because!
Youβre welcome!
Love the shimmer from the confetti dots, it adds such a fun element.

Heidiβs Baby Quilt
Hi there,
I have a fun quick baby quilt idea for youβ¦I guess itβs quick if the people you request a square from are able to get you their square.
Heidi made this cute simple patchwork quilt for her new grandson. To surprise her son and daughter in-law (hopefully I got that right, if not daughter and son in-law), she requested everyone from both families to contribute a square of fabric that represents them. Heidi added some sashing and a border to frame the squares nicely.
I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads and 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles.
Loving that quilty texture!!!
Such a fun variety of fabrics. This would be a great eye spy quilt.
I think she said she gave them a color scheme, just to make sure the fabrics would work together.
If youβre interested in having me quilt for you, please send me an email and Iβll get you added to my schedule. quiltingit@gmail.com

Deniseβs Glacier Star Quilt
Hello Friend,
Iβm so excited to share this incredible quilt that Denise madeβ¦Iβm in awe! Iβm sure you are, too.
The pattern is called Glacier Star by Judy Niemeyerβs, and itβs a foundation paper pieced pattern. It looks like the pattern is available through shops that teach the technique. Iβve linked info from one of the shops. If youβre interested, contact them for more info.
I wish you could all see this one in person. The colors are so beautiful against the black background.
I thought and thought about what designs to suggest for this quilt, and kept coming back to 1/2β lines. When I suggested the 1/2β lines, I suggested the variegated thread as an option, too. Denise loved that idea!! I was so excited!!! I used my Lined 1/2β design to quilt it, which is available in my shop.
I used Superior Threads Omni-V variegated threadβ¦color #9044 Zumbaβ¦it has purple, orange, yellow, and green in it. I also used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles. I thought about using black batting, but there are enough light colors on the front, I didnβt want the dark to show through.
Now, Iβll just share a variety of different picturesβ¦it really is such a stunning quilt.
Iβm sure it would have been great with a different quilting design, but the lines allow the quilt to shine and doesnβt take away from the overall quilt design. Plus, lines are super modernβ¦which fits this quilt perfectly.
Another close up. Look at all those stunning points. Love!
If youβre looking to get some quilts professionally quilted, send me an email and Iβll add you to my list. quiltingit@gmail.com
Happy quilting, Leisha

I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads and 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline.
This actually looks like an easy pattern, which shows off the ombrΓ© fabrics beautifully!
Do you have any quilts ready for machine quilting? Send them my way. Email me at quiltingit@gmail.com to get on my list.

Those eyes are incredible!!!! Iβm in awe at all the piecing.

Deniseβs Mix Tape Quilt
Hello Friends,
With a new year around the corner, Iβm hoping to stay more up to date with the quilts Iβve quilted, letβs see how that goes. For starters, how fun is this?!?!!!!
Denise made this fun Mix Tape quilt and the pattern is by On Williams Street. Yes, I have the quilt upside down for the picture. I didnβt think twice about it, until now. Forgive me. Itβs such a cool quilt!
Denise wanted a lightning bolt type of quilting design, I searched a few and found this Ric Rac design by Patricia Ritter from Urban Elementz. Itβs a fun one!!
I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads. I also used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles out of Utah.
The quilty texture on this one is perfect!!

Lindaβs Thrift Quilt
Hi There,
I can believe itβs almost already thanksgiving!! I hope your holiday season is wonderful. Iβm looking forward to the fun parties and family time ahead.
Iβve never gone looking for quilts in a thrift store, if I do I hope to fine one like this one!! Linda found this beautiful vintage Grandmaβs Flower Garden quilt. Lucky!! She had me quilt it just in time for her childβs wedding.
I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline, and cream Omni thread from Superior Threads.
If I remember right, because Iβm behind in blogging and canβt rememberβ¦this was pieced by hand. Makes me excited to finish my hexie flower quilt. Iβm sewing rows together. Then Iβll need to finish the edges.
I love how a design like this, which is a classic, shows off the beautiful piecing.
Itβs also fun to see these beautiful vintage fabrics.
If youβre interested in having me quilt for you, email me at quiltingit@gmail.com
Thanks for stopping by! Leisha
Sherryβs Chicken Salad quilt
Check out this adorable chicken quilt!! Lori Holt always creates the cutest patterns.
Sherry made this Chicken Salad quilt by Lori Holt with her fabrics as well.
I used Natural White thread from Superior Threads on the entire quilt, and 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles.
I custom quilted the entire quilt. As you can see in all of the chicken blocks, I quilted my Overlapping Circles freemotion design in the background and a variety of feathers that fill the spaces in the chickens. Overlapping Circles is just one of ten different designs that I teach in my Quilting It Freemotion course. There are so many fun designs to choose from or Iβve bundled them and given you a little savings. Either way, if youβre wanting to get started or expand your freemotion quilting abilities, this course is for you!!
I quilted a 1β cross hatch in all of the rectangular blocks, with an x then an orange peel in each of the squares. I used my 4β Circle2 ruler for the orange peel petals. Which I think creates such a fun texture overall.
Here is a close up on one of the cute chicks.
All that beautiful texture!!

Laurieβs sunny quilt
Hello Friend!
I have a very cheerful quilt to share with you. My friend Laurie made it with one of her favorite colorsβ¦yellow!
The pattern is called Perfect Ten by Swirly Girls. Such a fun pattern!!!
I used my new favorite Triplet panto, designed by my good friend Shellyβs mom from Ma Tante Quilting. Itβs a beautiful stitch out and look at how cheerful it is. Itβs the perfect texture for this quilt.
I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads and 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles out of Ogden Utah.
I love the mixture of prints that Laurie used. So soft and sweet.
One more look at the layers of that beautiful texture.
Finishing off with a quilt swirl.
If youβd like to have me quilt for you, please send me an email and Iβll add you to my list. quiltingit@gmail.com
