Denise’s Incredible “Hide and Seek” Quilt

I’m super excited to share this incredible quilt that Denise pieced together entirely by hand. Yes, by hand.

This is the largest custom quilt that I’ve ever quilted, and it was so beautifully made. It took me over 20 hours to custom quilt.

I have oodles of pictures, but it’s hard to capture all the details.

There are five large medallions, with several regular sized linking them together and several small ones scattered throughout.

When I custom quilt I want to repeat several of the quilted designs throughout the quilt to make it more cohesive. Some are more detailed while others are a simple orange peel petal.

I really just wanted to enhance each shape as well as the fabrics used and style of the medallion.

I used several of my Circle2 rulers to quilt all the beautiful curves, intermixed with freehand quilting and straight lines.

Back in 2018 I designed and created my Circle2 rulers, because I couldn’t find a circle longarm quilting ruler I loved. For this quilt I used 9 of the 12 circles, 2”-10”. It’s nice to have a set that is so versatile. Each ruler has two different sizes of circles, ranging from 2” up to 13”. You can see the 3”/9” pictured below.

I love that simple curves, lines, and circles can create an overall beautifully quilted design.

You’ll notice in several of the blocks that the same fabrics don’t go all the way around the outside of the block, it’s because the blocks are interlocking. So some of the designs I quilted are different.

One of my favorite elements I quilted are the fan like curves, you can see in the light pink fabric in the block above. I used either my 8” or 9” Circle2 rulers to quilt those throughout the quilt. I saw the design quilted on a quilt that my friend Rebecca from Ruby Blue Quilts did on a quilt.

The diamond shape I saw quilted on a quilt that Rebecca did as well. It’s fun to intermix the straight lines with the curves.

Simple orange peel petals can add so much dimension to a block, like the one above.

When I quilted the large medallions I quilted all the smaller stars around the outside the same in the one block.

The picture below shows a edge that isn’t straight, Denise will straighten out the edge when binding it.

Swirls, like the ones below were also great to add some dimension and help with bulky centers.

I love the fun Tula Pink backing she chose, which is a 108” wide backing.

It’s fun to see all the designs intermixed together.

Quilty textures don’t next to be complex or complicated to be just what a quilt needs.
