Heidi’s Road to Freedom Quilt

Are you ready to see one of the most stunning sampler quilts?!?!?!!!

Heidi made this beautiful version of the Road to Freedom quilt by Lori Smith, 63 different 5” blocks. Heidi did a different layout than what the pattern calls for, which I love!! She added sashing and a variety of different colored corner stones. The pattern for the blocks can be found here: https://www.frommyhearttoyourhands.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1336452308

I think one of the many things that I love about this quilt are the solid fabrics. The colors pop against the off white fabric.

It’s hard to pick a favorite block, but one of my favorites is the orange and blue block towards the middle. Which one is your favorite block?

Heidi chose Patricia Ritter’s and my Vintage panto design, which we designed after my simple swirl with a single feather. I love the traditional yet modern feel of this design. Vintage is available at Urban Elementz. Go to: https://www.urbanelementz.com/vintage.html

The soft swirls add movement without being super dense. Which can also soften the hard lines and angles in the blocks.

I used my go to Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt it. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones and don’t forget to use my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA to get 15% off your next order.

I used 8020 cotton poly comfort blend batting from Winline Textiles. Go to: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm

Loving how the swirls and feathers dance across the quilt, which you can see better in the border.

Let’s stop and talk a little about this backing fabric! It a double layered and double sided woven fabric from Fableism. I initially thought it was pieced. It has a nice thickness and weight to it. Love it!!

Thanks for stopping by!! Happy sewing! Leisha 💕
