Kathy’s Friendship Circle Quilt
I’m beyond thrilled to show you Kathy’s amazing quilt!!! Isn’t it so stunning!
Kathy took a class with her daughter in-law in Sisters Oregon. It’s a paper pieced pattern and guess what…The Friendship Circle block pattern is FREE and it’s by Marcia Hohn from Quilters Cache. The info is here: https://www.quilterscache.com/F/FriendshipCircleBlock.html Marcia links the templates and makes great suggestions on how to get started, if you’ve never paper pieced before.
I wanted to enhance the modern feel of the quilting with soft curves and lines in all the right spots.
Kathy requested a swirl in the center of the block, and then I wanted to highlight the shape with the lines in each of the triangles using an Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple. Go to: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/
For the soft curves I used three different Circle2 rulers, which are available in my shop at: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop
I used the 5”, 7”, and 10” rulers. The picture above shows the 4”/10” Circle2 ruler. The 10” is on the outside of the ruler. I used the 10” ruler to quilt the curves around the block, as well as in the four pointed star corners. I used the 5” ruler to quilt the simple arc design in the on point square block, and the 7” ruler to quilt the border…which you’ll see at the end of the post.
My Circle2 rulers come in a set of six and are available in my shop: https://www.quiltingit.com/shop They are made from 1/4” high quality acrylic in the USA, and are available in clear or clear green. The circles range in size from 2” up to 13”.
I love how the overall quilting design compliments and frames the quilt pattern.
I used cream Omni thread and New England Blue Omni thread from Superior Threads. Go to: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3004-cream-neutral/p/134-02-3004?show=Cones and https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3107-new-england-blue/p/134-02-3107?show=Cones

Here is a close up of the blocks!
I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles. It’s my favorite 8020 I’ve used. Go to: https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm
Look at that quilty texture!! Love it!
Below is a look at the curves I quilted in the border using my 7” Circle2 ruler. Which is one of my favorite designs to quilt in sashing or a thin border.
