Alisha’s simple wedding quilt

Sometimes we can make quilts that are so simple, yet cool at the same time.

I served in the young women’s organization in my congregation for 4.5 years…and I miss it. Those girls who were 12 and 13 when I started are now graduated from high school and doing wonderful things. One of them recently got married. One of the leaders of the women’s organization in the same congregation, called me recently asking if I could give them some tips about tying a quilt for her. I’ve tied a couple quilts, but I obviously prefer machine quilting. I offered to quilt some fabric instead, and then the women to sit together and bind instead of tie. We found this fun Moda modern background paper fabric, made a couple of horizontal seams and then I quilted it.

I used my Domestic Stitches - Triangles quilting design to quilt it, which is available in my shop. I love how the design looks on this simple modern dashed fabric.

Because there was enough backing, and also to give it a little pop of color…yep, I’m going to call grey a color, it was bound with the backing fabric.

I used natural white Omni thread from Superior Threads and 8020 comfort blend batting from Winline Textiles.

Don’t you think those fabrics are so great together?!?! I do!

This quilty texture is simple, but makes my heart happy.

Shelley’s Baby Quilt

If you like modern quilts, check out this baby quilt that Shelley made for her newest grandson.

Cool huh?!?! Shelley’s daughter in-law saw a pillow like this and loved it, so Shelley sewed this together quickly and was able to hand deliver it when she flew across country to meet him.

I used natural white Omni thread on all the white rectangles and a dusty blue Omni thread, that matched that fabric perfectly, both from Superior Threads.

I also used 8020 comfort blend batting from Winline Textiles.

I used the Edge rulers from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple, to quilt all the lines.

To stay with the simple modern look, I quilted x’s in the rectangles and a 1/4” pinstripe in the blue rectangles. I left the black and white thin stripes unquilted, and they popped!!

Faye’s Beneath the Stars Quilt

Faye is one of my favorite people, and I was elated when she asked me to quilt for her. She is in a sewing group that I occasionally go to. They meet each month, but my schedule doesn’t always allow me to go. But when I do, I’m always filled with so much goodness because of these amazing women, and Faye is apart of that.

Faye and a couple of friends made this and tweaked the pattern a little bit. This quilt is called Beneath the Stars by The Fabric Addict using the Soar fabric from Northcott.

Originally we talked about me quilting a wood grain quilting design on this quilt, but then I asked her what she thought about Birchwood, which is one of Patricia Ritter and my quilting designs that is available at Urban Elementz, and Faye said yes…and I was so excited. You can see why!! The texture is sooooo perfect for this quilt.

If I remember right, I used a light grey Omni thread from Superior Threads and 8020 cotton poly comfort blend batting from Winline Textiles.

The Soar panel on this quilt is absolutely amazing. The colors and artwork leave me speechless…

I love solid minky, so the quilting can create the unique texture for this quilt.

Kate’s Heart Strings Quilt

Kate made this super sweet baby quilt with one of the blocks from Jill Finley’s Heart Strings pattern. Kate used scraps to make the heart. This pattern is in Jill Quilted Hugs book.

I used the Dear Heart quilting design by Hermione Agee, which is available at Urban Elementz. It’s such a cute design. I did the quilting pretty big because Kate wanted it to be snuggly.

I used 6 oz. bamboo batting from Winline Textiles, which is my absolute favorite batting ever!!!! I want to use it in all of my quilts forever and ever. LuAnn has the best battings.

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads.

I love the simple texture that a cute design creates on a quilt.

Barbara’s Dogs in Sweaters Quilt

Hello Friend,

I have another fun quilt to share with you today!!

Barbara made this super cute Dogs in Sweaters quilt, pattern by Elizabeth Hartman, for her daughter. Fun thing…her daughter’s dog looks just like these dogs.

I quilted it using Propel by my friend Jess from the Longarm League. This is such a fun design, especially with these cute doggies. If you’re a longarm quilter, have you heard of the Longarm League? Not only has Jess created such a wonderful community, she has so much wonderful educational content provided to members. If you want to expand your business and learn step by step things you can do to make your business better, the Longarm League would be a great fit for you.

Laurie’s Churn Dash Quilt

Hi Friends,

I have a bright and fun quilt to share with you today!!!

Laurie made this cheerful Churn Dash quilt for one of her daughter’s friends who has cancer for the third time. Hopefully this will keep her nice and warm during treatments. This is when I’m reminded my job and our quilting hobby mean a whole lot more.

Here is a snapshot of my Gammill Statler quilting out Patricia Ritter and my Sweet Marmalade design. You’ve probably seen our Marmalade design before, Sweet Marmalade has hearts instead of feathers. I love it!! Both are available at Urban Elementz.

I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads and 8020 comfort blend batting from Winline Textiles based out of Utah.

These Churn Dash blocks are pretty good size, and it’s such a fun easy pattern. I’m not going to link a pattern, I’ll let you do that and find something that works for you. This is such a great classic block.

A couple different snapshots of that quilty texture. Love it!!

Laurie added some beautiful pops of color in the two borders.

Look at that minky…this is why I love solid minky 100% of the time. The quilting creates the best texture!

These colors make me hopeful spring is coming soon, even though we got more snow last night and will throughout today. Utah has gotten tons on snow the last couple of months.

Denice’s Granddaughter’s Indah Blossoms Quilt

Hello there,

I have a beautiful quilt to share with you today. Denice’s 13 year old granddaughter made this one, amazing huh?!?!

The pattern is by my friend Carolyn from Free Bird Quilting and is called Indah Blossoms. You can find the pdf pattern and template set in her shop. Carolyn has so many incredible quilt patterns, go check out her shop.

I used the 8020 comfort blend batting from Winline Textiles based out of Utah. I used a deep aqua thread for the top blue part, and my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads for the bottom part and all the appliqué.

Denice’s granddaughter wasn’t loving the quilt after working on it for years. So my task was to add some fun quilting to it. Denice loves it, and I hope her granddaughter does, too.

I quilted my freehand Overlapping Circles design in the blue background, which adds such a fun texture to the quilt. I teach 10 different designs, and you can pick and choose which designs you’d like to learn.

Here is a close up on some of the flowers and what I quilted in them. I tried to mix up the designs and add something different and unique to each one. Both the pick flowers, one pictured above and the other one below, are some of my favorites.

The orange one below is also a favorite!!

Denice and I talked about the quilting a couple of times, and then last minute I asked if I could do a graffiti type quilting in the white background. I went in a garden themed direction, with flowers, feathers and leaves, with pebbles as filler. To see a video, check out this instagram reel.

I think the texture is such a fun addition to this quilt!!

Creating such a free organic texture can push me out of my comfort zone…but it’s fun to try new things. I’ve quilted a few other quilts with a graffiti style background. They can be seen in my work gallery and on my blog.

Susan’s Tulips for Oma Quilt

Hi there,

I’ve been quilting away the last month, and have some beautiful quilts to share with you…let’s start with one of my recent finishes…Susan made this incredible quilt and asked me last fall if I would quilt it for her. It was an absolute pleasure adding all the beautiful quilty texture to this quilt.

The pattern is called Tulips for Oma by Christa from Cotton Berry Quilts. Amazing, huh?!?!!!! Christa is a longarm quilter, too, and I got some inspiration from her quilting on her quilt.

Susan and I talked about how great a double batting would be, and she decided on the 8020 cotton poly and wool combo, which I’ve used on a few of my own quilts. I put the wool layer on top which creates the added puff to the quilt top. It’s so lovely. The wool I use if from Hobbs and the 8020 is from Winline Textiles out of Utah. I also used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads.

I love how all the blocks turned out together. I never know what the overall look is going to be until I pull it off of the quilting frame. There are five of one block, as pictured above in the center, and four of the other…as pictured below. I used the -20- curve ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to create the curves that go around the flowers in the block below. Then I freehand quilted my Overlapping Circles design in the center surrounding all the flowers and leaves. For the finishing touch I quilted 1/2” lines using one of Linda’s Edge rulers. I struggled to know what to do in the other block…as pictured above…I decided to quilt a few tiny pebbles to close off the circular design, and then quilt the same Overlapping Circles in the background with the same 1/2” lines outside.

To carry the Overlapping Circles to other parts of the quilt, and have the overall design by cohesive, I also quilted them in the border. I quilted some freehand Pebbles along the edge of the border to add some fun interest in there as well. In the dresden flower I quilted some feathers, and so light quilting in all of the appliqué. For the checkered border, I quilted an x in the gingham fabric, a pebble in the white, and a simple orange peel petal in the blue square using my 2” Circle2 ruler. That checkered border is one of my favorite parts on this quilt…one of…haha!! There are many favorite parts.

I quilted two 1/4” lines on both sides of the sashing, and then freehand quilted the circles in between.

Here is a look at all of the textures together. Love it!!!

I also used my 3” Circle2 ruler, as pictured below, for the petals in the blue post squares with the sashing. My Circle2 rulers are such a great asset to have when I’m custom quilting. They are my go to for any curve I need. They are available in my shop.

It took me nearly 15.5 hours to quilt this, and it was worth every stitch. It was a labor of love.

Denise’s Unique-orn Quilt

Hello Friend,

I hope you’re having a great week!! I have an amazing quilt to share with you today. Denise made this for her daughter for Christmas, and picked out colors to look like her Indy horse.

The pattern is Unique-orn Quilt by And Sew I and can be found in her Etsy shop. It’s foundation paper pieced. It looks like the pattern has a couple of different size options, and the option to make it a unicorn too.

I used my Lined 1/4” design to quilt it, which adds just the right amount of modern texture and enhances the incredible piecing. Lined 1/4” is available in my shop.

Look at the amazing mane…I wish you could all see it in person!

I used a tan Omni thread from Superior Threads and the comfort blend 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles.

I think this is one of the most incredible quilts I’ve ever quilted…absolutely amazing!

Marilyn’s Quilts

Hello Friend,

I have a couple of beautiful quilts to share with you!!

Debbie’s mom Marilyn has been sewing a lot this past year, and I was able to quilt a couple of more quilts for her.

When I asked Debbie what this pattern was, after searching and searching for it, her mom told her she just made some half square triangles and laid them out to get this blog. It’s fun to see the blocks together with no sashing, which adds a beautiful secondary design.

I quilt Patricia Ritter and my Opal design on it, which is available at Urban Elementz, and I think it turned out beautifully.

I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads and Winline’s 8020 cotton poly Comfort Blend batting.

I love the fun border that Marilyn added!

The visual dimension is so cool!!!

I used Grapevine by Denise Schillinger from Urban Elementz. And it’s such a great subtle texture for this quilt.

Laser Cut Quilts Fall 2022 Market Launch

Hi Friend,

Have a seat and grab your favorite drink, I have oodles of pictures of the quilts that I quilted for Laser Cut Quilts for their fall 2022 marker release, to share with you!! All custom quilting, too. Please take note of all the fun quilty textures.

First off, Noel designed by Ashley Greer. Isn’t it the cutest!!! I loved adding those overlapping swirls to the background. I saw them first quilted by Tia Curtis who is a ray of sunshine. She is an incredible custom freemotion quilter. I’m excited to quilt them again…hopefully soon. The texture is just beautiful!! Of course it was fun to add the pebbles and pebbled swirls in the mix.

I quilted the trees with simple tree-like quilting, the truck with 1/4” angled pinstripes, and the snowman with pebbles.

I used threads to match.

I used 8020 cotton poly blend batting for all of the quilts, which I get from Winline Textiles based out of Utah.

This sweet mini quilt is Wheelbarrow by Ashley Greer. The details are incredible.

Look closely at her face. Years ago when I quilted my first face on their Maker quilt, I was definitely intimidated…now it’s one of my favorite things. Such fun texture. I kept her dress, sleeves, and hat simple. I really wanted to have some fun with the background, so I quilted my Swirly Feathers, which I teach as part of my Quilting It Freemotion course. If you’re looking to enhance or start your freemotion quilting, check out my video course. I take you from the sketch pad to freemotion quilting on your longarm…of course it requires you to practice practice and practice some more.

I used brown thread for the background and a natural white Omni thread for everything else.

Next up, Following the Star designed by Madi Hastings, and it’s a limited addition.

Crackle, another one of my Quilting It Freemotion designs, is such a fun background which I quilt on a variety of different quilts. It was the perfect texture to quilt behind the camels.

Inside the camels I quilted my Grass texture which looks like fur. It’s also another design that I teach in my Quilting It Freemotion course. It’s great on so many different types of quilts. It’s very organic and forgiving. You should give it a try. If you don’t know where to start, let me show you.

I used a cream thread for everything except the border, I used a lavender thread color for that.

I quilted 1/2” lines with my favorite Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple. This is how I quilt the corners.

Next we have, Christmas Mischief by Madi Hastings which will be available June 2023. This is the center piece of the pattern.

I used a cream thread for everything but the wood frame.

How fun are all these textures. From the pebbles in the background to the wood grain in the wood, to the texture in his beard. …scroll down to see the goat…he’s my favorite part on this one. Once again, check out my Quilting It Freemotion course to learn my techniques for freemotion quilting.

Simple waves in the snow, that lies on the fence…and the fence texture. Sooo fun!

The gnomes beard is so fun to quilt. Just like the faces I’ve quilted before. The simple texture of a line, quilted organically. So good!!!

Okay, check out this guy…every bit of texture was sooo fun to quilt. His horns, his face, his fur. His fur is a version of wood grain. Fun huh?!?!

Next, this good sized wall hanging is perfect for those of us who a fabric lovers. Called Scent-a-mental About Fabric is by Ashley Greer and is going to be available June 2023.

I used a pale pink thread to match the background, and kept the quilting pretty simple with the Swirly Feathers in the background and Grass texture inside the skunk.

I did quilt a Grass texture behind the words. Which is a great way to help them stand out.

I honestly don’t think it’s necessary to quilt in every piece of appliqué. I didn’t quilt anything that is black.

This next one is also part of the Christmas Mischief, which can be sewn together as one quilt…click on the link to see it all the parts to this particular quilt. Shipping in June 2023.

Overlapping Circles is one of my favorite backgrounds to quilt. It adds some seriously fun texture. If you’d like to learn this design, check out my Quilting It Freemotion course.

Once again I kept his clothing simple, and had fun with the texture in his beard.

I used a cream Omni thread from Superior Threads.

Okay, how cute are their faces…and beard textures. Beards and hair are like faces, so fun to quilt texture in.

Here is a gingerbread cookie on a plate with a cup of milk. Texture from quilting brings quilts alive!!!! I love it.

Lastly, my favorite one. Pacifica by Diana Hatfield…my next store neighbor. When she brought it over for me to quilt, and told me she designed it…I was in awe! This is such an incredible design. Look at all the shapes and pieces inside the turtle. Way to go, friend!!

I used a mint blue thread on this one.

This is almost like graffiti quilting, with so many elements in the background. It’s very organic and I just made it up as I went along. Adding feathers, swirls, and pebbles among all the waves.

Inside the turtle I decided to do my Crackle, which looks like a turtle shell, of course that also made it easy to quilt around each of the elements in the shell without stopping and starting. Which is a huge bonus for saving on quilting time.

Isn’t it so striking?!?!!!

Jeanenne’s Log Cabin Quilt

Hello Friend,

I hope you’ve had a great week, I can’t believe it’s already Friday. Yay for the weekend!!

Jeanenne made this beautiful log cabin quilt. She was making a different log cabin quilt, and didn’t like the layout, so she decided to lay it out this way instead. I love the pop of black in the centers and all the beautiful colors. A perfect scrappy pattern. (Note • if someone knows of a pattern or tutorial that has the blocks laid out like this, let me know and I’ll link it.)

I used my favorite 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, which is based in Utah. I also used Omni cream thread from Superior Threads.

I used my favorite Kapari quilting design to quilt it. Kapari is available in my shop in several different digital formats. It looks so great with the wide variety of fabrics and the modern layout of the quilt.

My All the Things Tote

Hello Friend!!

Happy New Year! I hope your new year is off to a great start with many fun sewing projects to look forward to this year.

I sewed again over my break, and I’m excited to share with you what I made…

Have you seen the new All the Things Tote by Kait at Knot & Thread??? Kait released the pattern in December. Kait’s the one who also did the Patchwork Duffle pattern for the duffle bag that I just made, click on that link to check out my bag.

The All the Things Tote pattern comes with three different sizes to choose from, I made the medium or 16” size. As you can see in the pictures below, it’s perfect size for my english paper piecing project.

If you’re new to bag making, this is a great place to start!! Kait knows how to create well written beautiful patterns.

When I saw the white floral, I knew I wanted to use it for this bag, but if I used the white on the bottom it would definitely get dirty. That’s when I had the thought to piece the body of the tote and pocket fronts. I cut the raspberry dashed fabric at 1.5”, the light weight denim which I used for the base at 17” and then the white floral pieces at 8” or 9” each. Plan on the fabric shrinking some when it’s pieced at quilted. For the pocket panels, I made them the same size as the side panel which is behind the pocket, so I could trim the pocket down to line up with the stripe on the fabric for the main part of the tote. To line them up, I laid the fabric for the bag flat, then laid the side panel on top…lining up the binding edges. Then I placed the pocket front on top of the size panel. I then shifted the pocket front down to line up the stripe with the stripe on the bag, then I marked the pocket front along the bottom to trim off the excess that hangs over the side panel. Then I trimmed the top of the pocket front to the size indicated in the pattern. Then I attached the binding across the top edge of the pocket front. Next I sew the side panel and pocket together, as indicated in the pattern.

I got the floral, teal, and raspberry fabrics from Heartfully Handmade …she’s closing her shop and has some great deals, go check it out and get yourself some beautiful fabrics. The floral is Whimsical Romance by Keera Job Design Studio for Riley Blake. The raspberry dash fabric is by Cotton + Steel and is their Stitch and Repeat basics print. The teal fabric is Bee Cross Stitch by Lori Holt from Riley Blake. Heartfully Heandmade has some of the floral and raspberry dash in stock, when she’s out you’ll have to search for them in another shop.

I got the Art Gallery Denim, which I used on the bottom from my mom and aunt’s online shop Sisters and Quilters. They have such a beautiful selection of fabrics to choose from.

My “handmade by Leisha Kaye” label was made by Custom Labels 4 U. I love them, and put them in the binding of each of my quilts and bags.

I decided to use my On Point digital quilting design to quilt it. It’s classic and would look beautiful with the floral. On Point is available in my shop.

I love the pops of color together!!!

I used a Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt it…which is my favorite white.

I got the 1.5” Poly Pro Strapping and Base Stabilizer from Kait’s shop. When you go get the pattern, be sure to pick them up. She also sells the Soft and Stable.

When I make bags I prefer to use Soft and Stable over batting. Sewing with the foam makes sewing those bulky seams a breeze. It’s pretty amazing stuff. I got it from my mom and aunt’s shop. When you open up the Soft and Stable there will be lines from the folds, no worries…they iron right out. I use a dry iron on cotton setting, the folds come right out. If you’d like to, you can spray it with water as you iron.

As you can see, I already know what I’m using my All the Things Tote for…my hexie flower quilt. The perfect tote to take “all the things” I’ll need when I go sew with my friends.

My Orla Kiely train case fits perfectly inside. The train case I found at target over 7 years ago, and I haven’t seen one like it in quite a few years.

My Patchwork Duffle Bag

Hi Friends,

I hope you’re holidays are going wonderfully. We had a great time together yesterday, and have more plans to celebrate this week. I snuck in some of my own sewing last week, and I can’t wait to share.

Have you made a Patchwork Duffle yet? It’s such a fun pattern by my good friend Kait from Knot and Thread. This is the second one I’ve made, you can see the first one here. Kait designed this pattern to use up some of your scraps , and make a patchwork version. Check out her instagram to see several patchwork versions of her duffle bag. She also offers instructions to use a piece of fabric for the exterior, like it did.

I used the Watercress fabric from the Elixir line by Melody Miller from Ruby Star Society for the exterior fabric, and the Elixir Peace Cream for the lining. The handles are a solid green art gallery fabric, that matches beautifully.

I had my labels made by Custom Labels 4 U. I initially got them to add to quilts, and thought why not add them to my bags…they are a fun touch!

Kait has a couple of different options in her pattern…she suggests using Soft and Stable or a batting scrap. I used Soft and Stable. Have you sewn with it yet? I have loved using it every time. It’s so easy to sew with!!! It adds great body to a bag or duffle. You can see how great this is standing up…there is nothing inside.

I got the cutest striped zipper by the yard and hardware from Kait’s shop. She has everything you’ll need, except for the fabric. I got the rose gold hardware to match the zipper…which is so beautiful with the Elixir fabric, that has a little rose gold metallic color on some of the leaves.

You can see the lining, which is so beautiful with the exterior fabric.

I used my Kapari panto (digital quilting) design to quilt the fabric…the quilty texture it creates is one of my favorites. If you haven’t used it yet, you should!!! It quilts out fast and beautifully.

I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt it, and another white to sew the bag together. I didn’t have a green thread, so I checked with my mom and she let me use some green embroidery thread to do all the top stitching on the green fabric.

Kait has a great video tutorial, which she teaches us how to make a carrying strap. The hardware for this strap and the fabric, isn’t included in the pattern, so check out her video to get all the requirements.

I’m so excited to use this bag!! It’s such a great size. I’m heading to my aunt’s cabin this week, and I’ll be sure to take it along.

Kait has another new bag pattern, call the All the Things Tote. Which I’m planning to make next!

Kathy’s Flower Shop Quilt

Hi there,

I hope you’re ready for Christmas, I can’t believe it’s nearly here. I’m excited to share with you this amazing quilt that Kathy made!

The pattern is called “Flower Shop” by Karen Cunningham, and it’s in her “A Ladies’ Garden” book.

Kathy requested custom quilting, so I did what I could to make each part shine!

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads on the entire quilt. She also requested the 6oz. bamboo batting from Winline Textiles. It’s my all time favorite batting. That extra loft enhances the custom quilting texture.

Kathy fussy cut a lot of the fabrics, and suggested some orange peels to highlight the squares, so I pulled out my 5” Circle2 ruler and got started. My Circle2 rulers come in a set of 6 rulers, made in America with high quality 1/4” acrylic. They are available in my shop.

I quilted freehand feathers in the outer border, more orange peels in the little squares. I quilted a 1/2” grid in all of the pink triangles along the border with an Edge ruler from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple.

I quilted some freehand Overlapping Circles in the background behind the flower blocks. Overlapping Circles is one of my Quilting It Freemotion videos, which are available in my shop. If you’re interested in learning how to freemotion quilt, you’ll have to go check them out.

With all the appliqué, I didn’t quilt anything inside them instead I just quilted around them to make them stand out more.

Kathy’s Santa Quilt

If you’re following along on my instagram, @leishakaye …then you may have seen this beautiful quilt at the beginning of November. Excited to share with you all the details!!!

Kathy made this quilt years ago, and she wanted to finally get it quilted. The embroidery patterns are out of print, they are by Kathy Pace from Gooseberry Hill. I did see some of the patterns on eBay when I searched her name. If you’re interested, you’ll have to do some more searching to find the rest of them. Kathy made traditional chaining blocks to frame the Santa’s.

I used the Citrus Mint Omni 3081 thread from Superior Threads, which matched the background fabric perfectly!!

I used a 6 oz bamboo batting from Winline Textiles. It’s my absolute favorite batting!! The loft is nice, too!

I used my 3” and 10” Circle2 rulers to quilt all the curves in the chaining blocks. (Below is my 3/9” ruler) The small orange peel petals were quilted with the 3” ruler, and the arcs were quilted with my 10” ruler. This circle ruler set has been so nice to have. There are 6 rulers in my Circle2 machine quilting circle rulers, the circles ranging from 2” up to 13”. They are made in America with 1/4” high quality acrylic. - Design Patent D875,574 -

I also used Linda from The Quilted Pineapple Edge rulers for the straight lines inside the little squares and sashing.

I quilted freehand pebbles in the background and quilted lightly in the hand embroidery, just so the blocks wouldn’t be too puffy. Kim’s Movement in Squares Quilt

Excited to share with you this fun modern quilt!!!

Kim made this cool geometric quilt for her son, lucky him!! The FREE pattern is called Movement in Squares by Wendy Sheppard.

I love Kim’s choice to colors, the pops of green are so stringing.

I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, which blends so nice on so many quilts.

Kim requested Sprawl, by Jess from the Longarm League, for the quilting design. I love how it turned out. I’m excited to use it again.

Kim wanted a double layer of batting, so I put Winline’s 8020 cotton poly blend batting on the bottom, and Hobbs wool on top. I love that combination. I’ve done it on a few of my own quilts.

Kathy’s Shadowed Daisy Quilt

Hi there,

I have a beautiful quilt to share with you today!!!

Kathy made this lovely Shadowed Daisy quilt, and she did her own block arrangement. The pattern shows all the white background pieces on the right side. I love what Kathy did!!! The pattern is by Evelyn L. McCarty, who was a pattern and template designer years ago. She has since passed away, so I couldn’t find this pattern online. Maybe check with your local shop, and see if they can order it from their distributors.

Kathy requested wool batting, which added some lovely loft to all this custom quilting. I use the Hobbs wool, and it’s delightful. I’ve loved using it in some of my own quilts.

I used my favorite Edge rulers from Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt all the lines.

Kathy wanted something quilted in the white fabrics to help it stand out, so I drew out a design…which I’ll show you in a moment, and sent it to her. I was trying to figure out something to quilt behind the daisy’s to soften all the hard lines that I had already quilted. I decided on my freehand Overlapping Circles which is one of the designs that I teach in my Quilting It Freemotion course. If you’re interested in learning how to quilt freemotion, you should check it out!!

Here is my drawing…as you can see I didn’t draw out the Overlapping Circles. Sometimes I have to quilt a portion of a design out, to then figure out what else to quilt.

I used a few of my Circle2 machine quilting circle rulers to quilt all the curves. I used the 4” Circle2 ruler for the petals in the center of the arc design. I used the 13” ruler for the lovely arcs in the white. For all the curves in the flower petals and the ones in the border, I used the 7” Circle2 ruler. Below is the 4”/10” ruler in clear. Each set comes with 6 rulers, with two sizes of circles per ruler. The circles range in size from 2” up to 13”. They are made from 1/4” high quality acrylic in America. This set is so versatile.

Here is a close up!! So much great quilty texture.

I used cream Omni 3004 thread from Superior Threads for the entire quilt, with the exception of the navy and green thin borders. I used threads that match the fabrics.

The back on this quilt is so pretty!!! It’s fun for me to see all my hard work look so wonderful together.

Megan’s Patchwork Swoon quilt

With Christmas just around the corner, check out this beautiful quilt that Megan made!

The pattern is called Patchwork Swoon by Camille from Thimble Blossoms. During the summer Camille was hosting a Summer Swoonalong, and I offered a prize, which Megan won!! She got $100 towards longarm services.

I love this Christmas version!! Such a beautiful quilt!

Megan let me choose the design, so I went with Patricia Ritter and my Merriment quilting design, which is available at Urban Elementz. It goes perfectly with the holly berries in the fabrics.

I used my favorite 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles, and my favorite cream (3004) Omni thread from Superior Threads.

Look at all that glorious texture!!!

Kim’s Wooly Stars Quilt

How sweet is this quilt that Kim made for her daughter??? She used to show sheep at the county fair…Kim even added a black sheep for fun!

The pattern is by Corey Yoder from Coriander Quilts and is called Wooly Stars. So cute!!

I used my favorite Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads, and 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles out of Utah.

I gave Kim a few choices and she chose Patricia Ritter and my Tahitian Pearl quilting design. I love how it turned out!!

A swirly minky goodness. This is why I always recommend solid minky!!! The quilting design adds such fun texture.
