Nancy’s Scrap Jar Star quilt
Super excited to share with you this stunning quilt that I had the privilege of custom quilting this past week.
Nancy made this beautiful Scrap Jar Stars quilt, which is a pattern by Amber from Gigi’s Thimbles. Here is a link to the pdf pattern. https://www.etsy.com/listing/478816982/scrap-jar-stars-digital-pattern-by-gigis?ref=share_ios_native_control
As someone who’s birthday is around the 4th of July, I love all things patriotic…especially beautiful quilts like this one!
Nancy wanted it custom quilted, so I drew this out on graph paper and got started. I had no idea how the blocks would look like together, and i’m beyond thrilled with how it all came together.
Loving all those beautiful curves!!
There is always speculation that this is done with my computer or a digital panto, nope. This is all done with rulers…five different rulers. All the curves were done using my Circle2 rulers. I used the 2”, 3”, 4”, 5”, and 8”...and the 2” and 8” are on the same ruler, as you can see below. My Circle2 rulers come in a set of 6 rulers ranging in size from 2” up to 13”, and are available in my shop at https://www.quiltingit.com/shop
I used the Circle2 rulers in the following places. The 3” on the checkerboard center of the star, the 4” for all the curves around the outside of the star, the 2” for the petals in the little squares in the corners of the blocks, the 8” in the sashing, and the 5” for the corner blocks on the border.
I also used an 8” Edge ruler from my friend Linda at The Quilted Pineapple to quilt the straight lines in the border and in each block. Go to: https://www.thequiltedpineapple.com/shop/
These are the exciting parts for me…the moments where the blocks meet and the designs beautifully flow together so gracefully. I was expecting something beautiful in the corners where the sashing meets, but I didn’t expect the secondary square design from the two blocks, pictured below.
Loving how a simple design can beautifully enhance the quilt pattern, when it comes to custom quilting that is my goal.
It took me around 8.5 hours to quilt this quilt.
I did a 1/4” pinstripe in the border and added this fun four pointed petal to the corner to mimic some of the other designs in the blocks.
I used Natural White Omni thread from Superior Threads to quilt it, which can be found here: https://www.superiorthreads.com/omni-3002-natural-white/p/134-02-3002?show=Cones and don’t forget to used my non-affiliate code ASTLEISHA at checkout to get 15% off your next order.
I also used my favorite 8020 cotton poly blend batting from Winline Textiles. Go to:https://www.winlinetextiles.com/blended-battings-winline-comfort-blend-s/127.htm
